NDS Fault 36 resolution
Posted by: rjstaines on 08 March 2013
My NDS sprang a Fault 36 - DSP ERR2 on me yesterday evening
It was unresponsive to the remote, but played using N-stream
I power cycled it a couple of times - no change
So I emailed my dealer (Acoustica)...
And by 6am he'd provided the solution
Which is - turn it off for at least 30 minutes, then power back up... it works
Seems this is a known software 'challenge', but I couldn't find Fault 36 + NDS on the forum, so I wrote this for anyone else who's NDS goes AWOL.
You just can't beat a great dealer, can you ?
I guess will has new firmware release later when it is known issue.

Yes, and with 'fast forward' facility with a bit of luck. I'm holding my breath !
Thanks very much will turn off overnight and see what happens. I go this fault and was told Naim r and d are working in a sw fix.

Jeremy, that should fix it - post back here & let us know (that would be useful for future searches on this subject).
That would scare the hell out of me. Glad it was resolved. Thanks for the heads up, it might come in useful.

Sorry rj I got engrossed in the music and forgot. It's 8.30am here and I just powered down the NDS. Will see what happens after 9am.
Yes it works. All ok now.
I had the same problem with my initial SuperUniti. Power cycling for me would not resolve the problem, although I was always able to control it using N-Serve, and it worked fine when doing so.. I just lost the functionality of the volume knob and display. Eventually I took it in under warranty and was provided a new replacement unit.
I'd keep an eye on it.
Any news?
There's an interim fix for this. After my NDS went AWOL with Error 36 three times in the course of a weekend, I contacted Phil at Naim and he arranged for an interim software update to be emailed.
I say interim because the warning label says 'may degrade sq' (or words to that effect). Those nice guys at Naim are currently auditioning some 60 variants of the code to determine which one to release to us guys out here in the real world.
So my advice FWIW is if your NDS errors to the point where it gets on your wick, go talk to Phil, otherwise keep holding your breath for the next release.
While writing, I also have to thank Phil Harris, Steven Hopkins and Geoff at Acoustica, all of whom responded to my email on Sunday. Service above and beyond the call of duty if ever I saw it !
Thanks RJ. No way I'd change s/w to reduce sq. That's what it's all about.
In the middle of birthday celebrations, and it just happened!
First thing i did was check the forum, so thanks for your post. Now I'm waiting with baited breath... but all dancing off for the moment :-(
(glad none of my friends know how much I paid for this kit... ;-) )
and 30 mins later we're back in action... thanks RJ
Paul
I do.

Allen,
If you contact me on phil.harris@naimnet.com then I can send you the interim fix file that can be applied using the normal Naim Streaming Client updater application.
Best
Phil
The 36 bug just hit me too-- will try the switch off for 30mins solution--- but when will the permanent fix come out please?

As - above - I can send you the interim fix if you contact me on my email address and the final code will be out when it's sound quality approved...
Phil
Phil - - a 2 hr shutdown fixed it. Rather wait for permanent sound proofed fix thanks- what's your forecast for this?
