Connection issue between Unitiserver-SSD and NAS (synology 412+)

Posted by: LSNYC on 09 March 2013

Hi,

I have a Unitiserver-SSD and trying to map it to a NAS synology.

Both are wired into router (airport extreme) via a switch with cat6 Ethernet. When I log into the web interface of the Unitiserver, it does not 'see' the NAS (only my iMac).

i have tried using 'add music share' function on the web interface of Unitiserver, but on the path screen (comes up with "\\" initially) when input the static IP address of the NAS or the name it doesn't play ball!

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

So on the web manager, have you logged into the uServe and gone to System | Network Shares | Manage Shares to look for folders on the nas?  And do you have folders on the nas that have privileges to allow read and write to them?  Those are some prelim. steps.  The "proper" way to add a network share is via that Manage Shares menu -- folders available to be used as shares should just appear when things are set up right; you shouldn't need to do it manually as you tried to do . . . so something is amiss.

Have you changed the network workgroup name on the nas to Naim?  That is a frequent cause of these problems -- the workgroup name for the nas must be Naim.

Thanks Bart.

Based on your network workgroup name suggestion, I needed up doing some more research and discovered the issue.

In DSM software for the NAS, under control panel, selected 'Win/Mac/NFS". Window opens up made sure that "Enable Windows File Service" was selected.  This resolved the issue...

When I logged back into the Unitiserver and searched Manage Shares, it popped up! Bingo...

Have spent the last two hours ripping CDs to the NAS, and blown away by the sound quality of the play back through the NDX!!

I'm glad you got it sorted out!  There are plenty of uServe owners here, so if you have more questions ask away.
