Some absolute gems in that lot. None of which, I am proud to say, I own.

Everybody seems to have taken "worst" to mean naff or offensive. When I saw the title of the post though, New Order's Blue Monday albeit a single, popped into my head. If I remember rightly, the cover was extremely expensive to make which, despite Blue Monday being  one of the best selling 12" of all time, resulted in Factory Records losing money on every record sold.

So maybe qualifies as the worst cover of all time.

Not strictly true. That was a rumour put around by Tony Wilson. They actually only lost money on the first pressing, which featured a die-cut sleeve with a silver (fifth covers being expensive to print back in 1983) inner. Later pressings were less complex and Factory (plus New Order) actually made money on the record.

I've read all the rationale and designer justification, butI still cannot fathom why they did this:

(Still undecided on the music a bit too...)
