Simple question really. With which streamer/DAC/ps combo will my current set-up (82/SC/250) better a SU?
I reason that on a good day I could get ca £3K for the 82/SC/250 (this is looking at ebay prices) which is close to the cost of a SU. Fewer boxes but would, say, adding an ND5 XS to the 82 etc system get me close or better the SU? fwiw, I still hanker after getting a classic top end Olivce system by swapping the 82 for a 52 at some point, so moving to a SU would represent a significant change in direction for me...
Any pointers / own experiences welcome.

I would guess that any of the streamers front ending your current system would equal or better a Superuniti.
Having said that I went from olive CDS2/xps/ Nat 03/52/SC/135s (which is about where you are headed) to my Superuniti and am much happier with my system than I was before. If someone offered me a straight swap back I would turn it down in a heartbeat (leaving aside the option of immediately flogging it and getting another SU and a wad of cash!).
It's not that simple a question - I arrived at my multi box system over a 20+ year journey and each stage sounded a bit better. If you are going to sit there pining for an ounce of bass resolution or another layer of imaging depth then stick with multi box. If you can see yourself getting so much into the music you forget about the hifi stuff then go for the SU. Remember most of us were first blown away by music on very primitive systems - not that I'd willingly go back to my Regentone record player with the other stereo speaker in the lid!

I fully agree with Pev! At one point I was collecting boxes which brought incremental improvements but I woke up one day realising that I wanted simplicity! While I wish my SU could power a Stageline, I'm very happy with what the SU offers. It has certainly made me forget the upgrade path and to simply enjoy the music!
