Help Needed - Orphaned files on HDX
Posted by: Robko on 26 March 2013
Hi Everyone.
I recently ripped a couple of CDs to my HDX. I upgraded the same discs with a remastered version a couple of days later. I deleted the the original rip and thought all was good. However when I checked the music folder under MQ folder the rips appear as songname.wav.del. I tried to delete again but nothing happens. These old rips are now consuming over 1 gb of hard drive space. Any suggestions. Do I need to send the unit back to naim to get cleaned up?
Thanks,
Robko

No the HDX does not need to go back.
Use the DTC to remove the files and free up the space

Unfortunately the DTC doesn't fix the problem. I tried resetting the unit to no avail. The files still show up under MQ folder as song.wav.del. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried using DTC but the files still appear when you search the drive.

if all else fails, drop an email to Naim and they will talk you through the process, im sure phil Harris will sort it out in a heartbeat

Hi Robko, You definately doing the right thing using DTC. It should immediately clear the files from the MQ folder. Guess you could try the Web interface under System Menu/Manage Music just incase there is an issue with your DTC but failing that agree wth Cbr600 give Phil a call.

I sent an email to naim support yesterday. I'll keep everyone posted on the problem.

After you delete the CD from the DTC, you need to go into the "tools" folder and empty the recycle bin before you can replace the songs. The MQ folder is only visible from the Network view in Windows. You cannot delete anything from the nework view (in case you are trying to do that). Check the recycle bin.

Hi, I thought I should update everyone on my experience with the HDX. I ended up sending back the NaIm distributor in Canada. They were able to remove the orphaned files. Apparently the problems stemmed from my router. Not too sure if that was really the problem....I am now able to start over to rip my CD collection. The Hdx is able to stream successfully to my Uniti ... But .... And it's a big one

The Hdx no longer will play files locally ( serve as a local player). You can browse files but every time you try to play them it freezes up for 15 seconds and reverts back to home screen. What gives?
I have been in contact with the local distributor and hopefully we can resolve this problem. If not it's going back to the dealer and I'm looking at other solutions. Since purchasing this unit, it spent more time at the dealer than my home.
The saga continues.....

Very sorry you having such a bad experience as my HDX has been a delight to use and revitalised my music listening. Sounds to my like a faulty unit you have as local replay is not affected by the usual gremlins of router/switch/wireless. The fact that the file deletion was not working as it should have now this local play issue suggests all is not right with your HDX. Whilst your local dealer should resolve I would definitely catalogue your list of problems to NAIM as feel sure they would want to be aware.

Robko,
We have sent a fix to your dealer. The most probable cause is the PCI card has moved out of its socket during shipment... So we are sending a new one in case this one is damaged...
