Has anyone got n-stream V3.0 or 3.1?
Posted by: Kev Powell on 01 April 2013
Hello,
I have a UnitiQute and have a donated ipod touch 2nd gen. The latest version of n-stream is not compatible for this device as it uses an earlier OS and cannot be upgraded (I've tried).
Naim support do not keep earlier versions of n-steam and have suggested I try and obtain a previous version from another user. Anyone out there who can help?
Thanks
Kevin
If someone has it, you won't be able to install their copy on your iPad -- at least not easily -- since all iOS apps are constrained to the user account that obtained it. Apple locks it all down with DRM.
Nothing like imposed obsolescence on hardware due to software.
Oh! There's a surprise! Thought as much.
So I take it that the n-stream 3.2.ipa file in the iTunes library on my desktop is not a generic file and has been "interfered with"?
Thanks for the reply.

Apple uses DRM for all iOS apps, to prevent piracy. It doesn't matter whether the app is free or not. The only way to get around it is to jailbreak your iOS device. When you download an iOS app from the App Store, the data is tied via DRM to the Apple account you used to download the app.
I find it hard to believe that Naim don't have the older IPA, standard software development means you lee versions and backups etc.

Wow. So if I bought a new UnitiQute it would not work with N-Stream ? Is this a temporary issue?
Thx

No. If you bought a 6 year old ipod touch it wont work with nstream

A UnitiQute will work fine with n-Stream, as long as you have a recent enough iOS device that runs iOS 4.3 or later. That came out two years ago, and probably supports devices 2 years older than that. So just about any iPhone iPod Touch or iPad from the last four years or so should work. I can run n-Stream on a first generation iPad (ca. 2010).
I recently posted about my similar problems ie deleting nstream from an older iPod touch in an attempt to rectify a streaming issue, without realising I would not be able to re-install it. However rather than buy a new touch I am now happily using Synology's excellent DS audio app via my android tablet. Up yours Apple!

We are talking about iOS, not the UnitiQute firmware. I believe any UnitiQute can be upgraded to the latest Naim streaming firmware (i.e. 3.17).
