Arrived this morning from Amazon in a box big enough to put my 250 in.

Posted on: 08 October 2011 by BigH47

Yes for some reason Amazon packages have quadrupled(ish) in size recently, plus etra brown paper filling.

Posted on: 08 October 2011 by Lontano

Here is a box I got from amazon recently with a slab of vinyl in. This is exactly as it was delivered. The vinyl was perfect.

Adrian,

who was the courier?

it doesn't look like a Royal Mail consignment (?) ...phew! : )

btw i agree with your comments on HMV, but many of their savings are quite substantial, and i'm not near wealthy enough to resist

This one was the Home Delivery Network.

At the end of the day if HMV want to do business and they sell at a good price, it does not excuse their poor packaging. I would make them work for your custom and keep returning until they get it right. I would really ask for another. Maybe, eventually they will get the message. They are silly, they must lose a fair amount of business as a result.

I’ve just examined the cardboard packaging that contained my Madeleine Peyroux album.

It’s only slightly nibbled on one corner, and any other stress marks are very minor.

The damage to the packaging is far too slight to correspond the obvious bending to every corner to the album outer sleeve.

The only conclusion here is that the album must have been in the bent up state at HMV before they packaged and sent it. This damage was not caused in transit.

Perhaps this is one reason why HMV come up with these bargain prices, maybe they're selling on soiled stock,  ...or perhaps other peoples returns (?)

Yes, HMV returns are a pain, but I like the pressings on my 2 LP’s so may hang on to these for now, and re-order another set as to send back the worst of the two... (30 day limit apparently)

This one arrived today. It's a classic of its genre. Perfectly quiet surface and sounds just amazing. This is a double vinyl for a bargain £9.99 currently. Get it while you can.

I won't order from HMV as their packaging is inadequate. It is nice to get stuff cheap but to be honest I prefer to pay more and get it perfect. Also, the HMV return process is nowhere near as good as Amazon. If I were you I would get HMV to send you another until you get one that is perfect. Overall I find HMV amateurish - they have a lot to learn from Amazon.

But i really wish HMV would use stronger cardboard packaging, every corner of my outer cover has incurred transit impact bash denting : (

But still, a nice price from HMV at £9.99...

Lee Hazlewood-Requiem for an almost lady

Finally tracked down a pristine copy of the original Swedish release which sounds wonderful compared to the inferior 'Smells like' repress from a few years back. This is probably my favourite 'late night in front of the fire with a glass of something album'!

Bought this one at RMAF, and thought our Guy (a.k.a., Guido Fawkes) might appreciate.

1972 Phil Lesh remaster of "Anthem of the Sun" (Warner Brothers, WS 1749) with a unique white cover:

Not surprisingly, the bass lines are a bit more forward and easier to follow.  Voices are also a lot more clear than on the original 1968 release.

My first wife took this from me when she left in 1990. I never got over it (the loss of the records, not the wife). Just found it on eBay last week.

This is the Japanese import of the complete Billie Holiday on Verve 1946-1959 (10 LPs). All disks in this set were never removed from their sleeves and played. I just finished washing them and am now playing through them. They sound fantastic. There is absolutely no snap, crackle, pop whatsoever.
