What was the last vinyl you bought?
Posted by: apye! on 18 January 2011
Arrived today in the post:
Three EMI Testament reissues.
Brahms: Violin Concerto Ida Haendel/Celibidache/LSO
Interesting pairing!
Cantelli/Philharmonia: Beethoven: Sym. No. 7
Been looking for this vinyl so looking forward listening to it finally.
Last two records are endorsed by Jay Coleman in the reissue thread.
Very nice Kuma. I have the original issues of the Cantelli Beethoven 7th and Kogan Brahms VC. It's been ages since I listened to them - must dig them out. Please let us know what you think of the reissues.
Kevin,
Didn't you get stung for £8 handling charge from the Post Office?
Steve
Hi Steve - no. It came via UPS courier (lovely cheerful lady).
Fingers crossed, I've ordered from Pop Market six or seven times now and I've never been stung by customs fees, even when the PM parcel has come via the Royal Mail. So far anyway...
Yes, they seem to have tempting offers, but I have avoided them thus far through fear of incurring the dreaded import charges. Maybe I'm being over-cautious - but I had the same experience as Denis A. (on the exact same Pink Floyd WYWH sacd). I also vowed "never again".
John, generally I only go for the really cheap stuff. Even with the import charges, the LZ vinyl would still have worked out cheaper than it is in the shops (or Amazon) here so it seemed like a no-brainer.
I have two more Pop Market parcels in the pipeline (Neil Young live vinyl and the Led Zep LP replica box set) so it'll be interesting to see if I get stung for those.
I do remember once, about 11 years ago, buying the then Mrs K something very expensive from Australia. The people who dispatched it put the value on the customs form - and I got done for £125 in import duty!

Thanks Kevin. Yes, I also noticed the Led Zep vinyl offer. Please let us know if you manage to get away without having to pay any additional charges
Anyone know anything about the following two volumes
Both on Sale in Belfast £15 each ,What's the sound quality like? worth buying?

Richard,
Me too! I only have the US Seraphim reissue.
Jay tells me that Testament LP of Cantelli actually sounded better than the original! :0
Anyways, this is one of my favourite spirited, animated and rhythmic rendition of the 7th.

DSD Remaster
Been busy buying up all the Springsteen back catalogue on vinyl in readiness for our Springsteen Appreciation day at HiFi Lounge in August
Two Neil Young live LPs, just £34 from Pop Market (inc postage).
Normally I avoid getting stung by customs, but not this time - had to stump up £15.84. Which is odd, because later I got another Pop Market parcel (a Led Zep CD box set) for which I had to pay not one penny.
Birds Fly South by The Mastersons'
Not sure why but it was 20p in a charity shop. Not played it yet as I'm on my holibobs. Got a couple of days in Athens before I get home and that's a good place for rooting about in record shops so i'm hoping to buy a few there.
Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
I remember when this album came out.
10 years later I got to listen to a cut from this album. I still don't get their music but curious to see how this particular tune sounds in my system. There was a lot of layering of sounds and a male vocal sounded as if the chap had a cold. Anyways, I was at friend's house and they were using this cut for various wanky hifi experiments and comparisons.
The Tangent - COMM
Working my way through the back catalogue of this interesting band (CD included)

Nice Neil Young albums, Kev. You've got me envious!
Perhaps the Led-Zep vinyl boxset was posted from the EU?
…some of Pop Market stuff is, apparently.
I’ve only just had a look around on their site, had to sign up to view the prices, found the site very awkward and extremely slow to navigate, and no search facility, and then my computer froze up, ...bugger.
Many prices look very good value for money but if coming from the US i won't risk the import duty cost.
They should tell us which vinyl they have that’s posted from the EU, would save loads of time, and avoid the gamble of getting stung by customs.
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours 2xLP 45rpm for £20 [sold out]

Richard:
The reissue of the Cantelli is actually better than the original. Try to hear one if you have a chance. It's the exception that proves the rule.
Jay
Edit: (I see now that Kuma beat me to this comment.)
Latest mono release:-
I've just bought a copy of that and they do say Mono on the sleeve but if you listen to the BBC radio 4 mastertapes programmes with Wilko Johnson he says its not a mono recording but simply the band playing without separation( a bugbear of his). Anyroads,if you've not heard those two radio recordings they're fabulous.
