I am wondering wich is the best SW to ripp my CD on mac osx.

I am using SONGBIRD but I don'like it as I can't modify the level of compression for the FLAC format.

I just spent the $8.99 on Metadatics to check it out -- it looks pretty good!

Is there a tool to generate tags from folder/file names among these scripts?

...or is there another software which can do this on mac other than the new JRiver?

There might be. Go to the web site and search. There are very many scripts, and I only know about a fraction of them.

Metadatics will create tags from filenames, as well as rename files from tags.

if you are going through iTunes, then iBatch will do this (and a lot more) via a single unified and friendly UI (attached image). It will also go the other way round. i.e. join tags to a new track name, or any other metadata field.

I use xld. Few days ago I bought Der Ring des Nibelungen and thanks to the recommendation of RT in this thread I tried Metadatics for editing the tags. Works great. And I now understand the need for editing tags. :-) Ralf

Xld works for me. I rip flac to my NAS and then convert them to aac for my itunes collection.

i use something called kid3 for correcting tags. Not great but its free and doesmhe job.
