Posted by: djs1784 on 18 April 2013
Mac OS 10.8.3, i.Tunes 11.0.2 (26) 64 bit HDX v1.65.
My mac can see the hdx and the music folders and the tracks. HDX cannot see anything on the network. The music is shared and shows on home shares as well. Any help appreciatted.
thanks
Have you installed the mac version of the dtc? It should give you a better way to manage network shares, but it can also be done on the touch screen.
Where do you store the Itunes library, on the Mac or on a nas? Networking between the Naim servers and Mac computers is more difficult than it should be, so Naim suggest to get a nas instead. I managed to get my Mini to store my downloaded files and my ns01 to stream from it, but it took weeks of fun getting it to work!
Is the workgroup set to "Naim" ??
Beyond that, I have no advice to offer re trying to share libraries with iTunes and a Naim Server. I'd not do it m'self, but I do not have any reason to as all of my music is flac or ripped by Naim to .wav
The hdx sees the network via SMB, have you turned this on in apple preferences>sharing> options?
Also in sharing you need to add the folder of music.
This may still not be enough apple dosn't really give a toss about SMB also if you have ripped the music with wav then apple (Like most everyone else) puts a 'sidecar' of information for the wav which other devices may not be able read.
All in all you want a NAS, these devices are the way forward. Apple are great my house is full of them, but when it comes to sharing they are shit except amongst themselves.
If you run Osx 10.6 or higher setting up smb on the mac is almost impossible unless you are extremely lucky!! . In Osx 10.5 or lower whoever runs these versions, it should work with just a little setup on the mac.

Thank you everybody. NAS seems to be the best solution. I presume the HDX will see the "not ripped" music, i.e. downloads and FLAC and the itunes will see its public folder library folder.
