I will NOT leave you alone, BigH, because you are relatively safe to criticize.  Of course, in picking on you, I assume you are a white male Methodist-- if you are a black, Hispanic, female, gay, or disabled Methodist, then I will abjectly apologize and withdraw my remarks--as they apply to you personally.  But those evil white male Methodists remain fair game!

By the way, if you really are one, you will almost certainly know the definition of a "Methodist".  It is a Baptist who learned to read.

Well, I created this thread before listening to the English/French presentation by Canadian authorities.  I will start out by saying that although cops really can (and sometimes do) really stupid and harmful stuff such as making a martyr out of people like Rodney King--or even worse, beating the crap out of some really nice guy who doesn't deserve it--I still, overall think law enforcement is a pretty good institution.  That having been said, I just abhor the modern phenomenon of the press conference in which every level of law enforcement pats each other on the back. 

The Canadian version was worse even than what we do in the US--because they did it in English and FRENCH!  I got in trouble once in a French hotel.  I was trying to tell the waiter I didn't want to eat my dinner roll-but I ended up telling him I didn't want to eat my tie.

But that isn't what I meant to post about--the press conference was REALLY upsetting to me.  Imagine poor Russ--an old country boy, sitting here in flyover country, with bad whiskey smelling up his overalls, scratching his wide ass and clinging to his God and his guns, hating everyone who doesn't look just like him and waiting for Jesus to come and tell him he was right all along in thinking Evolution was a joint plot drawn up between the communists and the Jews!!!!!  What was I to think when I saw, sitting at the podium--in Royal Canadian Mounted Police uniform---a woman named Jennifer, for God's sake!  That just about did me in.  I spent the rest of the day watching old John Wayne westerns and loping my mule.  I mean, Nelson Eddie must be rolling over in his grave.  Sargent Preston will never be the same to me ever again.

What's a mother to do?
