Ethernet cable
Posted by: Patrick Lam on 24 April 2013
Hi folks,
Kindly advise that do we need to pair the ethernet cables between NAS to router and router to streamer?
Well, if the answer is negative, then, is there any noticeable differences sonically?
Any advice is highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Patrick
You need an Ethernet cable from the router to each of the devices on the network, unless WIFI is used.
So in your case, one cable from the router to the NAS, one cable from the router to thestreamer (unless you use WiFi).

Hi Manu,
Thanks for your reply. Well, do I need the same grade of the two ethernet cables?
Kindly advise.
Cheers,
Patrick
I think the sonic influence of the ethernet cable remains very minute compared to all other factors, as discussed in this thread a few days ago.
Would certainly recommend CAT5e cable as minimum
Yes you should use the same grade of two Ethernet cables.. Whether you can use cat5e cables or cat6 cables
Patrick - it really makes no difference. Just make sure you are at least Cat5e cable. A shielded cable has advantages when its near sensitive audio equipment, interconnects or FM antenna leads - as it helps reduce the leakage from the Ethernet cable twisted pairs.
