BRAND OF DD UNITISERVE HDD

Hi
Do you know the brand's DD UNITISERVE HDD?
Do you know whether or not it will be better than the HDD Western Digital RED Special for NAS?
This could be help me decide between HDD and SSD
Phil Harris will be able to tell you.
Since any HDD will eventually fail, I prefer to have my stuff on a NAS. I also entertain the posibility that without HDDs thrashing about in the HDX it will run more mechanically and electrically quietly. This was cited as a potential contribution to sound quality in a Naim newsletter. But it's never been a huge topic of debate. I think the HDX sounds good in either configuration. It's a personal choice. Each to our own.
Most manufacturers won't use only a single supplier for their components. I was told that NAIM were putting Seagate Constellation enterprise drives into the HDX when I bought mine a couple of years ago (2x500Gb).
I seem to remember that some prefer the ssd version but others the normal hd versions in terms of sound quality.
One more thing to remember is with the ssd the nas is not a backup but must be backed up, and that the Naim firmware cannot backup the stores on the nas you rip the disks to, so more work to secure your rips.
Alain,
One consideration may well be the size of your music collection ( or projected size).
I went for a 1tb HDX to enable a Large capacity within the unit if required as well a stored on a NAS.
As Naim now offer a 2tb model, the options are great.
I have not used the ssd model but my unit has been faultless for last few years and i never notice any drive noise
Now have 4 tb of music on the NAS but happy that i can use the internal drive as well, to give max flexibility
