Itunes UPnP server avoidance?!

Posted by: GcDrumma on 02 May 2013

(I posted an issue a few days ago that was mind boggling to me...i've been trying to pinpoint my problem & i'm getting pretty close to solving-it)...

Unitiqute plugged-in a router with harddrive connected also.

Issue: When replacing files on my music harddrive, the Unitiqute does not take these changes into account; it keeps-on reading the music that is listed in Itunes (itunes seems to be the UPnP server?!).

Can i have the unitiqute simply read what's in the harddrive as i taught it was doing (not rely on Itunes?!)

I've replied to your email that you sent directly to us this morning but just to round off this one - your Qute is a UPnP client and only talks to a UPnP server. It does not scan networks for files and folders.

I suspect you have a UPnP server of some flavour installed on your Mac as iTunes is not a UPnP server itself by default...

Hi Phil, i've been out of town so i just came across your post...actually, i really taught that the Qute would read the files from a specific place on the hard drive (Lacie, Network 2)...hence, if i replace files on the hard drive from mp3 to wav, i expected the Qute to see these new files.

The problem with Itunes is that it does'nt take every extension in account (FLAC??); i guess the solution is to find another upnp server??

I've read the other thread & thank's a bunch for your reply, but i think it's a misunderstanding of upnp that got me confused...

I think i'll have to find a new upnp server software to resolve my different file extension problem though.

GcDrumma,

iTunes is NEVER a UPnP server -- it simply does not have that function.

There is a ton of help available here, both from folks formally connected to Naim and from the rest of us, but it appears that you do have some very basic understandings to gain about how UPnP streaming works.

Keep reading . . . and your dealer should be able to get you started also.

Try MinimServer on your Mac - should solve most of your problems.
