Car vandalism

Posted by: Dungassin on 02 May 2013

Well, some evil little moron decided to 'key' my new car while it was parked outside my daughter's house this afternoon.  Can't imagine why (jealousy?), but I'd love to know who it was so that I could inflict some damage to something he/she values.

My wife has one too. Exactly the same as mine, but in dark gray. In fact, she had hers before I had mine (by about 10 days). She gets a lot of attention from the younger guys on the road, driving her Japanese muscle car around.

I guess even horses would be a nightmare for you Winky ! Changed human activity for sure when we learned how to use them for work and transport.

Maybe not a problem to you, but I think the cars make the whole park much less pleasant.

Yeah, I bloody hate horses. You've got that right. Stupid, big, ugly animals with legs too skinny for their bodies.

Trails, tracks, paths and even roads were around long before the motor car. And will be around long after, too.

My father-in-law has one. It's a fun drive, for sure. I have owned 2 WRXs (1 an STI) in the past.

These tracks, paths and roads were here for HORSE drawn carts and carriages, not bikes.

I think most cyclists are parasites. They expect to use, free of charge, facilities bought and paid for by others. They should pay a fair price, based on their occupancy level.

Cheers

Roads there for the benefit and use of many different types of road user which can include pedestrian, horse, articulated lorry, bus, bicycle, car, camper van, traction engine, white van driver… etc.

Many cyclists also own a car, and every cyclist you see in your town is causing a lot less pollution and noise than a car user, they’re also not competing against you for an available car parking space, so cyclists are a huge benefit to urban transport in helping to promote health, culture, and safety.

Excellent news. Hope you can now begin to forget this act of vandalism and get back to enjoying your new BMW.

I pay my fair share of taxes. Actually pay more than my fair share as I never cheat, nor am I involved in any tax-minimisation schemes/scams/trusts etc. I also tread pretty lightly on the public purse. I never use public health facilities, I don't have any children of my own in public schools (my step-kids are in public schools). I cause no wear and tear to the transport infrastructure when on my bike. I don't add to the public healthcare bill by spewing pollutants into the atmosphere from the exhaust pipe of a car. My transport choice doesn't materially impact the ability of others to get from A to B.

I'm failing to see your point. Apart from a thin strip of often debris-strewn and potholed bitumen along the edge of the road, grudgingly granted to me by by impatient and aggressive motorists, what "facilities" am I actually using?

Characterising cyclists as parasites is simply failing to see the bigger picture.

Just joshing with you. Not sure why you'd wear promotional items as clothing.

Oh my god, you really are a loony Don. Time to get back home from your extended holiday on the moon. Too many green men up there? They do have an adverse effect on your mental health, you know?!

I pay my taxes as well.

As a two-car owner, I also pay twice for the road-fund licence which is designed to cover the capital cost and maintenance cost of our roads.

I can only use one of these cars at any one time. Neither car causes any significant wear on our roads. HGVs do that.

Cyclists don't cause any wear or tear either but they do occupy the road network and cause congestion that would otherwise not exist. Cyclists per-se, do not pay for the use of space on our roads. They should pay (just as I have to for my second car). Because they don't, I classify them as parasites. No offense chaps (and chapesses), simply factual.

Don, it's rather like you're loosing your marbles, might be an age thing, not sure. But I'm hopeful you'll come around once you start using those grey cells again for what they were meant to be used for. Thinking! Not holding my breath though....!!!

That's very honourable of you Don, we are mighty impressed.

May I remind you, that as a two car owner, you are also polluting the environment more than a single car owner, let alone a bicyclist. But who cares right? Global warming? An illusion on planet moon?

I can only use one of these cars at any one time. Neither car causes any significant wear on our roads.

Ah, I see, not your cars, just all the other cars, and HGV's of course....

Cyclists don't cause any wear or tear either but they do occupy the road network and cause congestion that would otherwise not exist.

That's right, it's those bastard bicyclists causing all those traffic jams the world over!

I completely agree mate, bloody hell, about time somebody said so!

No offense, really, all good.

Cheerio!!

Try this. Take a little notebook with you in your car. Mark down each time a bicycle impedes your forward progress, and each time another car impedes your forward progress. Perhps try to estimate on any given trip, how much of your time is spent going slower than you'd like because of bikes, and how much is spent going slower because of cars. I'd be interested in the results.

As another exerciose, now imagine those pesky, parasitic cyclists in cars instead, adding to the car traffic.

Don't forget, you're not "stuck in traffic" you ARE the traffic.

That must be the reason that so many motorists try to physically and violently remove me from the road with their 2-tonne metal battle-cages.

I should come clean and admit that this traffic jam is actually being caused by two cyclists a bit further up the road riding two abreast. If those free-loading parasites would just get out of the damn way, the cars would flow freely.
