Brothers In Arms Vinyl

All

My original second hand copy of Brothers In Arms by Dire Straites is now destined for the vinyl scrap heap.

What is the best vinyl pressing to replace it with?

How do you like the Stageline? I never liked it much with the rega cartridge...

Probably mine.  Has not been played in 22 years.  Rarely played as in those days I taped stuff for the car.

fact is, I read it was a 16 bit digital recording, one of the first.

Hi

The stageline with the Linn Lp12 is excellent.  But I expect that is what it was designed to go with as historically Linn turntables and Naim electronics went together.

I have had it 5 or 6 years through various Naim setups.

I have a double LP reissue from a few years ago which sounds pretty good. My brother borrowed my original many years ago never to be seen again and I couldn't really say how it compares with the reissue. If you were happy with your original there should be plenty of inexpensive copies around for a few dollars at most.

Hi

There are many second hand items around, I have bought several excellent looking copies but they don't play as good as they look

Got it. Unfortunately I haven't heard any other pressings aside from the fairly recent reissue which I thought turned out pretty well. My thinking was that a nice clean used original would be cheaper and maybe sound just as good. Perhaps someone else out there has heard multiple versions and can comment. Good luck on your hunt.

Go the streamer way, download High Def version & view the album via an i-Pad -- the world will never seem better.......

... and it'd only cost about £2500...

True - but means won't have to buy any more vinyl copies (good or bad) ever again......and cost averaged down by all the other vinyl you'll never need to replace in the future.

You can't beat an original 1st press vinyl and they are as cheap as chips.

Isn't it a digital recording? If so, what's the point?

The Point is I have a

Linn Lp12

Naim CDX 2

I have heard many streamers including Naim

There is only one winner in terms of absolute sound quality as good as the cd is even the enhanced version if the vinyl is in top condition

Sorry but I find the thought of streaming dull and interesting.  Just my opinion

Hi Trevor,

Should that read 'dull and uninteresting'?

I'm hearing you as I, as well as other I know and I'm sure others on this Forum, have been of that opinion -- but they do say "don't knock it until you've tried it" and given the equality of sound (& pure, non-scratchy sound at all times) I can't bear the thought of going back to having to deal with changing sides, cleaning, wiping, picking fluff of needles, searching for an album I'm sure I had somewhere etc etc....

And one thing I enjoy is not always listening to an album end to end but letting one song lead to the next, & not necessarily on same album, so being able scroll through entire library via tablet / ipad is an outstanding process and means listening to more music per session due to seamlessness of process!

Far from dull in my mind....but each to their own of course which is why Forums are the perfect medium for such discussions eh.
