Naim Radio launched.

Saw this on the Naim FB page, and it is showing up under Naim's choice on my ns01. I do not really favor stations without humans but of course since it is  Naim I am checking it out.

Thanks for the heads up Claus.

Yes, it's up and running through my Uniti also, 320 bit rate.

All good!

"…expect news of some quality programme material very soon once the trial is complete." This is really what I'll be waiting for.

Thanks Claus, the Qute/100 is playing it with all its mite!!

Nice alternating with Radio Paradise.

Good spot.

Same as Radio Raradise 320k, buffer drop at Hong Kong use NDX

Posted on: 14 May 2013 by KRM

Not true, Radio Paradise is AAC whereas Naim is MP3.

Bit rate is the same though (320k).
Posted on: 14 May 2013 by Skip

At same bit rate, isn't AAC superior?

The link above is not working for me tonight.   It must be slammed with enthusiastic listeners.

It seems Naim Radio 320 (just the same as RP320) cannot be streamed in some locations when the streamer is connected via Wired. It works fine on wireless. Did a tracert and the response from the server is in the 270-300ms range. Naim may need to review if the data buffer is adequate on the wired side of the streamer board or should there be a change in the data receiver algorithm to allow for more latency.

Excellent so far! Definitely much more jazz than you ever get on RP!  Fun to move between the two - guaranteed to hear something great at any given moment.

At the risk of stating the obvious, here's a tip - monitor RP from their website while listening to Naim radio and jump when a favorite comes on. This way you don't have the disruption of jumping back and forth. ;-)

Hi Engjoo,

Can solve it by firmware ?

Cheers,

Marco

MP3 is inferior to AAC.

Posted on: 15 May 2013 by Tony2011

I have been listening to it  and find that MP3 @  320 suits the type of music it's currently playing, mostly jazz and accoustic, better than RP's ACC. On the other hand anything a little bit heavier sounds  harsh and flat . Early days yet but unless they diversify their playing list, limited Naim catalogue, other radio stations have very little to fear.

My first impression is that the music played on this station is an excellent choice and offers lots of variety. It is really an addition to what is currently offered certainly bearring in mind the good sound quality. I also appreciate the performer and applicable album is displayed with every song.

I have the same problem that Marcobb describes (in Singapore), but I have it with all iRadio streams that are 320k, not just Naim Radio.

I would very much like this problem solved in a firmware upgrade, if practicable.

Having said that, the lower bit-rate stream is much more stable, and still sounds good.

I think RP sounds a lot warmer on my system Supernait SBL mk11 Nac a5 Mac mini Buffalo 2tb nas

I suspect this problem with 320k internet radio in some parts of the world could be addressed with a firmware update. Lets see if Naim can do that in the upcoming 3.21 release.

I think this problem should not be appear in nowadays.

Naim Audio, please investigate this issue seriously, then can let all peoples who face this problem to enjoy the high quality radio.

a wish list item: it would be great if they had a playlist cue so I could reference what was played after listening to several tunes, Like RP has and many radio stations. Naim....a possibility somehow?! ;-)

Thanks for all the feedback which we will take on board and review, this is just a start and we hope we can improve the whole experience. There should be no difference wired or wireless I have been told regarding reception and of course we would expect more issues with wireless, buffering from the wireless router maybe an issue for some, at my place I know my wireless network is under pressure so I can easily switched to 128kb/s for more consistent streaming. Right now our main servers are UK based so we may need to add servers in Asia for better coverage. I know it's not a true radio station and lacks the human touch though in some cases this is a positive Radio Paradise I love the balance they achieve. When Julian and I launched the Naim label our hope was to keep a close a association with music which we both had a passion for...I know many of you are not so impressed with the music on our label judging by the less then hoped for sales from the forum we need sales to keep making more music, we did not wish to attempt to be in the mainstream but to give musicians and opportunity to release music which the majors would not look at, doing this all and exposing our friends and customers to music which otherwise they would not discover was our goal. In the early days much thanks should be given to Ken Christianson of pro- Musica Chicago for allowing us to benefit from his endless supply of wonderfully recorded music. As the years have rolled on into this new streaming age the naim label is doing very well under the steerage of Simon Drake and the Naim Radio solution gives him a great shop window. Thanks for your continued support all contributions welcome.

After reading this thread, I had a brief listen and liked what I heard.

The quality of the 320 stream was very apparent.  I think it will

act as a good shop window for Naim Label.  Good step forward.

Love the new radio station.Great sounding, despite it being mp3 .Does not have the choice of music that PR radio or that Scots radio station has,(don't want to mention their name) but a great start.      PS.As an Englishman I would vote for the Scots Independence!

I really like the new station from Naim. What concerns the sound quality I believe it is even better than RP. ( 320 stream ).

Posted on: 23 May 2013 by California Jim

The Naim station is already proving its value.

I've heard several artists I haven't previously

explored and, in particular, Jim Gailloreto's

Shadow Puppets.  The only question is: do I

buy the CD...or go for the hidef DL?  I like it

a lot, so I'm thinkin' hidef...24/96.

On my first day of listening I bought one hd album. I really like the pricing Naim has for hd vs cd, with a price difference of about 2 euros, I do not hecitate to go for 24 bit downloads. On the Linn site the  price really makes the cd an attractiv choice, but then why have all the 24 bit capabilities and make the price so unattractive.
