Ray Manzarek, founding member of The Doors, RIP

Very sad news, passed away at age 74.
This is very sad news indeed . The Doors are up there with the Beatles as one of the greatest bands to come out of the 60s imo and Ray a legendary musician, who's music will be listened to for generations to come.
RIP Ray.
Hope he's playing with Jim again.

Agreed. For me, one of the best surprises of listening on Naim gear was the outstanding resolution and clarity of the keyboards I can now hear on the Doors HDCDs. Ray was a brilliant musician. Fun to hear him provide the bass riffs with the pedals on their live stuff too. RIP
Very sad news and yet another reminder of what awaits us all. They were a significant band, no doubt, but that's as far as it went for me.
Ray will be sadly missed, he played a part of the sound track of my life.
And I read this from John Densmore:
"There was no keyboard player on the planet more appropriate to support Jim Morrison's words. Ray, I felt totally in sync with you musically. It was like we were of one mind, holding down the foundation for Robby and Jim to float on top of. I will miss my musical brother."
Sad news another rock icon has passed. RIP Ray.
Cholangiocarcinoma is a horrible cancer to have. RIP Ray and thanks for the music. This really is the end my friend.
I had the chance to see Ray and Robbie Krieger touring a couple of years ago. While I am not the Doors greatest fan the world it was a very good show. He also produced some of the X records which I like a lot. RIP Ray.
RIP Ray. I love the Doors music and have been playing a lot of their albums (records) recently. I will do so tonight and raise a glass to Ray.
So many of my favourite musicians are now leaving us, I even managed to get my daughter into the Doors when she was around 18 years old. So good to have the next generation(s) appreciating the music I grew up with.

30 years ago I hitchiked from Scotland to Paris after being expelled from School to visit Pere Lachaise. I was nuts about The Doors to the point of abject teenage rebellion. A massive doob was smoked and all was good with the world again.
R.I.P RAY. G
The sound of The Doors. RIP Ray Manzarek, and thank you.

With full respect to Ray, just how smooth was that path to the top of the Scottish judiciary Graeme?

You have lost me there Chris I must confess. G
Ah, despite the thread's serious purpose, I attempted to be funny about the 'massive doob' and what I imagined to be your subsequent career path.

You judged me wrong .....nice try! G
Have just enjoyed (if that is the right word) an appreciation on Radio Four's obituaries programme Last Word which has made me get out the records.
Chris
R.I.P Ray still loving The Doors!
