Half time report, New music so far this year

Posted by: TWP on 23 May 2013

A thread Shamelessly copied from one this time last year ( apologies to bruce woodhouse  i believe )

What new releases or purchases that you have made have stood out ,disapointed  or would reccomend so far this year?

For myself , new to me not neccessarily new this year

Metz - Metz self titled album. Hard hitting canadian punk . Think steve Albini Big Black or nirvana's in utero with the volume turned up.

Tropicle Popsicle -Dawn of delight , A rather good debut , a mixture of 60's surf meets eighties indie ..

My Bloody Valentine -MBV , ignorig the hype i have been looking forward to this since 1991's  loveless . i had this  on repeat for weeks...

Moon Duo - circles , worth buying for Sleepwalker track alone , psychadelec guitar based album ,, if you like Wooden Sjhips ths is probably for you.

Metz have a good sound. Fond youthful memories brought back with MBV

These suggestions below may not go down so well with the general population around these parts but anyway :

Killswitch Engage - "Disarm the descent" - Pretty good return for KsE but as some fans will refer to their "second original vocalist" Howard Jones he would have been preferred for this.

Dropkick Murphys - "Signed & sealed in blood" - sadly the expectations were low and so was the outcome for their last studio album. Anyone who does remember the 'Murphys heyday may remember the total audience uniti of beer soaked bodies singing along, fists raised in the air. Even the beer soaked bodies laid out on the floor, singing along had fists raised in the air. Although if you can remember it, you probably weren't there. Go straight to their earlier albums.

Crossfaith - "Zion" EP - The best so far, outstanding band from Osaka Japan and the masters of metalcore/electronicore. Pure energy and firepower, play it through your Naim and play loud. Their drummer is already a legend, the Monolith single video is excellent.

Best for me so far remain Yo La Tengo: Fade and Nick Cave: Push The Sky Away. Kurt Viles: Waking On A Pretty Daze has been played a lot too.

Best music discovery would have to be Bandcamp website. Check out Josh Garrels: Love and War and Sea In Between for some good quality Americana intelli-folk. Think Josh Ritter.

Great choices TWP.

Have you heard the Chilean Krautrockers Follakzoid? Their album "II", released earlier in the spring, is a stonker, and given your selection, you may enjoy it.
