thought it was time i posted a new thread. here are some interesting old photos, that show some iconic moments, or are simply thought provoking. This is not intended to compete with the nice photo thread, and is not listed for its high quality images, just a series of old and interesting images.
Hippo cart in 1924. The hippo belonged to a circus and apparently enjoyed pulling the cart as a trick
Charlie Chaplin in 1916 at the age of 27
Suntan vending machine, 1949
Annie Edison Taylor (1838-1921), the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She did it in 1901 because she needed money, and after doing it said she wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

You can still get Old Jamaica - the label's changed but you'll find it in supermarkets. Just checked and it's Bournville Old Jamaica, perhaps that doesn't count...

Found this while going through my parent's stuff at home. One of really not very many pictures of all four of us, because dad was usually behind the camera.
I'm going to scan and restore it properly.

That's a lovely spontaneous family photo Rod. It must evoke many happy memories.
The health and safety brigade would have a fit!

Indeed! My brother was actually pedalling though, there is a special crank fitted to a higher set of pedals, although the whole set-up was chained together so that everything was in sync.
I'm not sure how or even whether I was secured in!
The triplet is still going by the way, it has been restored and takes part in charity rides. If I remember correctly it got as fast as 40mph going downhill (it was no featherweight - built in the 1920s). Scary!
I don't mind that the two of us aren't in focus - it's a terrific picture of mum and dad.

Restored! The power of Photoshop. Took ages, but I am pleased (the stripes to the left of the image are part of the photograph - I had a good look with a magnifying glass). I have ordered two copies from a reputable photo printing site, one for me and one for my brother.
My parents died in fairly rapid succession (Last August and eight weeks ago), which is extra tough, but quite romantic in a way. To have a photograph of them both smiling (which isn't wedding-y) with us in, doing something they loved - which is an enthusiasm both of us have inherited - is very special indeed.

Rod,
I just love that photo. The composition, sense of motion and obvious delight on the faces of your family make for one delightful photograph.

It looks pretty clear who's doing all the peddling
...and I agree with the other posters - it's a lovely memory of your loved ones.

Great photo Rod, but are you no 3 or 4?

I'm the lazy little one at the back. Wasn't I cute?
I do remember riding the triplet though when I was older (my dad, brother and I). Quite a monster!

Given all the fuss around the movie this week, I thought I'd share something of the original
Princess Grace Kelly with her son Albert.
