thought it was time i posted a new thread. here are some interesting old photos, that show some iconic moments, or are simply thought provoking. This is not intended to compete with the nice photo thread, and is not listed for its high quality images, just a series of old and interesting images.

I've seen this story.
I went to an exhibition of the work of Frank meadow Sutcliffe when I was at school (a long time ago) and many of the sepia images have haunted me ever since http://www.whitby-yorkshire.co...cliffe/sutcliffe.htm
Of course, reproductions on the net don't do them justice at all
Yes, the JMC "Sadness" pic never fails to amaze me - can't believe it's 149 years old.
Oops.

Love this photo of the war photographer Lee Miller in Hitler's Munich bathtub, taken by her lover David Scherman at the end of the War.
I like the modesty of having a photograph of himself on the bath.
A mirror might have done - for most.
I find the picture of the Polish children being selected by German personnel as one of the saddest pictures I have seen. This is what happens when people play God.
The men who did the selection, did they go home at nights to their wives and families and say that they had had a hard day at the office? Did they feel nothing?
Pictures like these should never be lost - they should be shown to every new generation as an example of what happens when thing go horribly wrong.
Don sunny downtown York
As an adjunct to the Apollo capsule picture, sadly they never made it into space, as a cabin fire during a launch pad test killed all 3 crew members.
I remember that horrific indecent well as a young lad fascinated with the space program:
A link to a recently found tourist film of NYC in 1939.
Fabulous BigH. Love the soundtrack & the colour .

Very cool footage of my "home town" BigH - it was telling to think of my parents (born 1928 & 1932, the latter having passed last year) could have been those kids splashing around, and my grandparents were the peers of all those young adults, and would have been at many of those very same places & seen those same sights.
Thanks for that...
You can find a vast treasury of old photos here -

'Maier’s massive body of work would come to light when in 2007 her work was discovered at a local thrift auction house on Chicago’s Northwest Side. From there, it would eventually impact the world over and change the life of the man who championed her work and brought it to the public eye, John Maloof.
Currently, Vivian Maier’s body of work is being archived and cataloged for the enjoyment of others and for future generations. John Maloof is at the core of this project after reconstructing most of the archive, having been previously dispersed to the various buyers attending that auction. Now, with roughly 90% of her archive reconstructed, Vivian’s work is part of a renaissance in interest in the art of Street Photography'
Nice Sniper.
Thanks, Kevin. Imagine she worked for years as a nanny and spent most of free time poking around every corner of New York but she kept her work a secret and never showed it to anyone indeed much of her work was found in undeveloped rolls.
Excellent Sniper.
She's a female Henri Cartier-Bresson but grittier.
Another photographer I like from the past is Robert Doisneau.
The same veins as Cartier-Bresson but slightly more humourous. These photos are like French Normal Rockwell.
Nice one Kuma, lovely set of photos. particularly like the leg out of the taxi !!
