Hi Forummembers,
I am a happy user of Nac152XS/NAP150XS/FlatCapXS/ND5XS and recently added some excellent (!!) Naim Allaes.
Apart from wired streaming, I use the ND5XS as a DAC for various other source like Digital TV Set Top, Dune Blue Ray, Airport Express etc .. My problem is that the vast majority of these "other" sources all have a Tosslink Digital out, and my ND5XS has only 1 Tosslink input (this is to my opnion the only, but annoying disadvantage of the ND5XS). I noticed that connectors exist to "transfer" Tosslink into Coax allowing me to use the Coax input on the ND5XS. However I don't like them since they bring their own power supply and I am afraid of that causing hum etc ...
So my idea was the following. Can I use my Samsung LCD TV as a hub. The other sources all have an HDMI connector which I could lead to the TV. The TV has a Tosslink optical out which good go to my ND5XS. In this case the TV would act as a kind of hub for switching between my other sources. Only disadvantage would be that the TV should always be On.
Will the above work ? If the TV acts as hub, do I in some way compromise on SQ or will the SQ remain the same since all is connected via digital connectors?
Cheers,
Iver

Iver, I'd imagine it might well work. As for impact on SQ, I don't know. Have you considered a digital switcher? i.e. a box that takes a number of digital ins and offers a single digital out. Connect the most important source directly and the others through the switcher.

Using the TV as a hub (with HDMI inputs) is an OK idea. We do the same from Sony TV to our SuperNait, but find that a couple of our sources won't always (or ever) output in PCM. The TV doesn't do conversion, just passes through whatever it gets, so we have back-up analogue connections (via necessary ground-loop isolators) from our multi-region DVD and Cable Box.
Blu-rays (via HDMI and TV) and the Mac Mini (optical direct to SN for audio - used for music and web-content like Netflix, Youtube and iTunes) are the only things that reliably deliver a PCM signal, and that's fine.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the input ! With your recommendation, I believe I found what I was looking for. Probably buy a Tosslink splitter. For some (invalid) reason, I do not like the switches with a PSU since I am afraid this PSU's start "humming" and "annoy" my Naim gear.
Again thanks guys,

I have 2 of the rotary manual optical switches, neither work, either they broke in transit or the mirrors are poor quality and not enough light gets passed.
At the TV end of my room the TV/DVD-R/BRP and Sky box all feed a 4 way Netgear box and the optical from the TV comes back to the DAC. Whatever is connected to the TV the sound comes back to the main system. 2 channel only.
