Nstream for Android
Posted by: Reburner on 31 May 2013
Is it coming any time soon?
A few here are knocking Apple, but one thing you cannot argue with is that 'developments' are delivered on time. Almost like clockwork.
...but their hifi products are rubbish!
I looked on Apple's website and didn't see any hi fi products
Sorry, not a Touch, but a Nano.
Can't be bothered, my phone and tablet are both Android, with native apps for JRiver, T+A and many more. Working just fine. Only N-stream is lacking, and I know now that there will never be an Android version.
Thank you Streamz for clearing this up.
Any insights on the World Cup outcome?
Presumbly, Phil's comments also apply the Paul's Airplay promise too, as that has never been withdrawn, to my knowledge?

Naim should open the RPC-API specification so other developer can do the job. I have already asked for the specs but did not receive an answer to this. (I am a developer, but did not build an java-app yet. But thinking of Namote, I am sure that other people could do).
Or at least naim should increase compatibility with standard upnp software. Why does the normal way for seek2time does not work? With a standard API method call Bubble UPnP and other software should be able to do in track navigation, shouldn't they?
Or why do track changes not work so many times with bubble UpnP? (I think it is the same with upnplay, AFAIR.) This issue has become *much* better with the last firmware update. But there are still problems in communication. Sometimes you have to stop the music and wait a minute for the uniti to calm down, so that it will respond again correctly.
The real reason why naim does not publish nstream for android is that they are waiting for me to buy an apple device that I think about since 2 years now. Two days after owning an apple device they will release the android version. I am sure.

Your ipod touch "lying around" will work just fine with N stream. It is what I use.
It depends on which generation and OS you have. Latest version of n stream will not work with 4.2.1.
So if you have an older ipod touch which is fine for playing music etc you will need to buy a new one to control a Naim sreamer if you haven't got an older version of n stream already installed.
Bertie,
Are you sure 4.2.1 will not run the latest version of N-Stream? That statement, at least to me, would suggest fragmentation within the Apple product range and we all know that simply couldn't be right. After all, if true, that would negate much of the argument against developing for the Android platform.
Kind Regards

I have an iPod Touch that won't run the latest version of Nstream - it does run the older version; so yes Apple has built in obsolescence. One of the many reasons why I tend to avoid their products.
