Weirdest names for children.
Posted by: Steve J on 02 June 2013
My niece recently gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter. I was sent a lovely photo of the baby along with her name...... Wren Karelyn! What is it with with new parents today? They seem to want to outdo each other with the weirdest names for their kids.
Any other experiences?

I think this has been going on for a while. When my eldest first went to school - she's 29 now - her best friend was a girl called Candy Sweet!
Never ceases to amaze my what I hear some children called.
MDS
my granddaughter is called Eleanor Karina. Does that count as weird?
I think that's pretty conservative in comparison Dungassin.
I think you should name them Child One, Child Two, etc.... until they are old enough to choose their own names. Unless you're on benefits and have more than ten kids. That could prove difficult!
When checking out a private school for my daughter a few years back, we went into a classroom where each kid's name was on his or her desk. Four of the kids were named some version of "Skyler". Two were boys, two were girls, and all four were spelled differently.
I had a friend named Anita Manne.
Seriously!
or let them choose their own middle names.
The Cat in the Hat used the names Thing One and Thing Two, and that was in 1957.
I once knew of a young woman who named her daughter Chlamydia.
Bill Lear, the founder of Learjet, called his daughter Crystal Chanda...

She must have been very popular at school
My nephew's son born May 18 near Boston has been given first and middle names Stryker Kai. His last name is Irish starting with a Mc.
If you want stupid names look no further than the Beckhams !!!!
Cruz....WTF is that from
Brooklyn......after the bridge i presume
Romeo.......is this kid gonna have the p155 taken out of him at school or what
Harper Seven......named after Harpic i think, the stuff you stick down the khazi

Laughing at 'modern' names feels a rather snobbish thing to do to me. I see plenty that I personally think are horrible, but I guess we get used to them over time.
Perhaps less avoidable are those people acquire by marriage. I have personally known a Jane Emma Royd, a Carmen Raspberry and Vicky Stitz

Re names acquired by marriage
- I used to work with a girl who's family name was Cox. She met & planned to marry a Mr Brown & we were all discussing this magnificent event in the office when she announced that they were going to marry with both their names hyphenated.
We all fell about laughing to the point that she left the office in tears but not understanding what was so funny. After a sob session with her buddies in Accounts who explained the joke she collected her coat & went home early. Next morning after an embarrassing few minutes she was laughing with us all, if not more so.
Anyhow Mr & Mrs Cox-Brown are still happily married.
Even the non wedded partnerships can lead to chuckles. The legendary pilot combo 'Alcock & Brown' was I believe also used as a verb to describe various personalities over the years...
I guess we shouldn't be too critical of the young parents of today when we think of some of the names that were used in the past. I was reminded of a cold wet Wednesday morning at a 7.30am tutorial when I was in training. My friend Chris was asked to comment on an abdominal X-ray. He started describing in the text book fashion....... "This is an abdominal X-ray of a female patient called.... Fanny Slapper"! We all thought he was joking but there it was on the ID. I guess the name Fanny didn't have the same connotations in the early nineteen hundreds that it does today.

Surely Frank Zappa's were the weirdest :
Moon Unit
Dweezil
Ahmet Emuukha Rodan
Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen
I heard this with my own ears. I was in a supermarket and a noisy little sprog was running around. His mother yelled "Oi, Lazarus! Gerrover 'ere!"
I wonder if he has trouble getting up in the mornings.

I believe this company may still be in existence. At the Chelsea Flower Show there was a Topiary garden built by a company of this name. Very appropriate.
Country singer Conway Twitty named his daughter Kitty. Apparently.
