Is this guy for real ?????

The BBC Sunday Politics Show, hosted by Andrew Neil

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22832994

Maybe best ask the question to our US readers - is this guy for real  ???

Does the USA actually let people like him out of secure institutions ????
It starts quiet enough but he gets wound up and up and finally explodes. The chair a well-respected political journalist politely requests him to “shut it”.  Then Jones’ throws another rant about how the Euro is a Nazi plot, the UK government is killing us with water !! - ehhh??  what is that about  ????

Great TV entertainment,  but who is this guy & is there any danger that he might be taken seriously by someone or maybe a whole political movement.

He is an entertainer. Nothing more.

I don't find him entertaining.  His manner - a bit nazi in style - is worse than his eccentric message.

Interesting to see how Andrew Neil handled him - I think he is a good chair.  Paxman would not have done as well IMHO.

I don't disagree Don, problem IMO was with whoever picked him for a program about a serious subject degraded it into a joke.  I would hope it was not Andrew,  but whoever it was I guess a return ticket is not on offer.

Undoubtedly merely a shock-jock, but the scary thing is that he claims to have 3 million listeners to his radio show. Even scarier is that most of them will have guns.

Three million reasons to be glad to live in the UK then!

Ripper:

Have you ever heard of a thing called fluoridation? Fluoridation of water?

Mandrake:

Ah, yes, I have heard of that, Jack. Yes.

Ripper:

Well do you know what it is?

Mandrake:

No. No, I don't know what it is. No.

Ripper:

Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?

[Window in the office is shot through by automatic weapons fire.]

Ripper:

[Walks to window and shouts] Two can play at this game soldier!

[more rounds ricochet through the office, cutting down the overhead desk lamp.]

Ripper:

That's nice shooting, soldier!

[Ripper produces a machine gun from a golf bag in his closet. He turns off the lights, then sweeps his desk clear with the gun barrel, placing the gun squarely on the desk.]

Mandrake! Come here!

Mandrake:

You calling me, Jack?

Ripper:

Just come over here and help me with this belt.

Yes Don, I agree Neil handled him rather well. I liked the line "you're not on your own radio show now".

Just heard a clip of the show on the radio this morning - sounded a complete joke, well handled by the interviewer.

To me he sounded more like Kermit when he was ranting.

Unfortunately more like something off Jerry Springer.......

I regularly watch Fox News for its unintentional comedic value and to keep tabs on what's going on in the lunatic fringe.  This guy, who I believe is a frequent guest on some of their shows, is a bit extreme, but pretty representative of what you can hear on hundreds of radio statios across the US. Do a little looking around on iRadio and you'll find it a real eye-opener - sort of like walking around a fetid swamp and turning over rocks.  It can make for quite entertaining listening....although it is a bit frightening to think that there are millions of listeners who actually take these people seriously.

I'm an American, and I've never heard of nor seen the guy.  We do not regulate our media figures; they can say all the dumb stuff they want, and if someone will pay them, or merely give them air time, so be it.  We would rather let dumb things on the air than set up a Government Commission to regulate the content of what goes out.

(Of course we set up a zillion other Government Commissions . . . but then name me a government that is NOT hypocritical and inconsistent . . . )

Just watched a Channel 4 programme about 'Alien Abductees'.  If it's not the funniest thing I've seen in a long time (bar 'Parks & Recreation') then I'm a 'Grey'........The only thing 'out there' was these folks grasp on reality.  Sad really. G

I love the way advocates in these programmes take information as fact, when it barely qualifies as a guess work.

A corker indeed. I thought the programme would be hilarious, and so it was.

The mentally sorry state of the participants was evidenced by them not having a clue that they were simply entertainment material.

The poor souls need professional help.

The prog is repeated next Wednesday on C4.

.....these ultra-advanced beings who could abduct anyone - nobel prize winners or world leaders - instead choose individuals several thighs short of a full bucket (you'll have to watch it to get that).

Cheap TV I know but after the excellent but harrowing 'The Fall' I needed something to laugh my spleen out at. G
