UnitiQute volume problems
Posted by: mharttpalmer on 10 June 2013
I seem to be having an intermittent problem with the volume control on my UnitiQute, where it will decrease in volume to 0, and, what's worse, sometimes increases to maximum level.
Is this a fault with the unit, or could it be something else?
Many thanks.
Is your network protected? Sounds like a neighbour of yours who s controling your Qute.
Or a Poltegiest?
that sounds very peculiar...sorry cant help here. It does that on its own?
Jason
When you ask if my network is protected: yes, it is secure and neighbours shouldn't be able to control it.
This problem happens all on its own. Quite often when it reduces to 0, it refuses to budge when using the Naim remote and the nStream app.
That does sound as though your network is getting some interference from a neighbour.
can you disable UPnP for a while and see if it still happens?
Hi,
Does it do this when *NOT* connected to the network?
If so then please contact your dealer for support as it *COULD* be a faulty front panel logo but obviously it would need to be checked out and confirmed.
Cheers
Phil
Hi
Thanks for your replies. I wonder if it was interference actually, as I noticed that my wireless settings on my router had changed since the installation of fibre broadband, after a firmware upgrade. I'll let you know if it happens again, but it certainly didn't when unplugging the Ethernet cable from the UnitiQute.
It happened to me once when I was approaching the Qute to mute it via the logo. When I was still inches away the volume slowly wound down! I attributed to static charge interference (but could have been something else). After recycling the power it worked fine. I now try to only operate it via remote or nStream.

Predictive learning, wow!!
thats a great feature to have
..don't give them ideas - complex enough as it is. Mixing good audio with b&*&y computers
I have the same problem with the volume. Some days its works fine and on other days its horrible, the volume get up and down.
Have you an solution?
My UnitiQute was one week in the shop of the dealer. He hasn't any problems, he said.
Should we compare the serial numbers?
I've had further problems since I last posted. I wasn't listening to music at the time, but the volume control went into a total frenzy - increasing to 70 (I've capped the max volume due to the problems), down to 0, muting, unmuting over and over again for about 5 minutes. The volume decreased to 0 yesterday afternoon too.
I can post the serial number when I'm back at home later, but my UnitiQute was bought at the end of November last year. It's the 24-bit 192KHz version that was a shop demo unit. When did you buy yours? I suppose there could be a batch with faulty volume control units...
My UnitiQute was bought in May 2013, brand new 24-bit 192 kHz. version.
This is a long time between November and May.
Have you the problems by day, sunlight, night?
By me ist it independent of the light situation. But I havent found any reason.
^^ out of curiosity - are your ground switches on float or chassis? Does it make any difference?
I will check this and try the other position.
On friday I switched from Chassis to Floating. But over night the volume decrease to "0".
..perhaps best leave it on chassis, while you consult with Naim customer support
It's still happening, and I don't know why. For the record, I am using a wired network - wireless isn't even set up on the Naim. On a couple of occasions things went mad - muting, unmuting, volume up to max, volume down to min etc. Whilst it was happening, I tried to use the Naim remote to change input and go into settings, but no signals were being read at all.
This is really frustrating - surely something is amiss with the unit itself?
My UnitiQute was going to service. I hope they find the fault.
ffs, I'm looking to buy the q2 early next year, but if posts like this keep coming up well that will be that.
There are 2 people who has probs, the UnitiQute from my dealer works fine. Its a cool all in one player. Dont be afraid...

Hi,
I think that gaining a little perspective might be in order here - we have produced many thousands of Uniti series devices and on the whole they are a very reliable product however, as with anything that you buy, there will be a small number of "faulty" units and for those units you have a warranty with your dealer.
If there are products that there are any issues with then the dealer should be your *FIRST* port of call and he should resolve them for you - as a customer we would not want you to feel that you need to resolve any issues yourself. That is what your dealer is for and what Steve and I are there for - just contact us or your dealer and we will resolve your problems for you.
Cheers

Thanks for putting it all into perspective, Phil. I am extremely happy with the UnitiQute, it's just unfortunate that faults on a small number of units can creep in. I'll contact my dealer, and I'm sure that things will be sorted out to a successful conclusion from there.
Cheers
Mark
My UnitiQute went berserk once. Turned the volume up full all by itself.
I've set the maximum volume to 60, just in case it does it again.
It's only done this once in about 6 months.

FWIW I would not hesitate in buying a qute2. I have always been a Naim man and have had a collection of Naim products over the years. Recently I purchased a qute2 and am very happy with it. It's a very musical product which does everything right and a very satisfying listen indeed, so much so that I also purchased a Nap 100 to go with it. The Qute2 is fine on it's own but had to buy the Nap 100 to go with it. It just seemed as though the two were made for each other add onto that the Unitiserve and you have a bloody marvellous system that will do everything you want and sound very special. It could turn out to be everything you will ever need. It's definitely all I will ever need.
My UnitiQute is since 3 weeks back from service. Now it works without any problems.
