Yay! Goldfrapp!

Posted by: Kevin-W on 11 June 2013

Exciting news today from one of my very favourite bands (seen them 19 times, have every record, DVD etc).

There's a new Goldfrapp album on the way, "Tales of Us", out 9th September, on vinyl, CD, MP3, 24-bit WAV and a limited edition deluxe box (which contains CD, 24 bit WAV on DVD, vinyl, extra CD of exclusive material, poster, lithograph and book; plus the first 500 are signed by the band).

From what Alison was saying on the radio today, the new material is quite noir-ish, with hints of the first album "Felt Mountain". New stuff will be unveiled at the Manchester Festival and Somserset House Summer Series gigs next month.

Can't wait. Anyone else a fan?

There's a short teaser film on the website:here

If you liked Tales of Us, then Felt Mountain and Seventh Tree are safe bets.

Anton, as per others, you should go for Felt Mountain first, then Seventh Tree.

The other albums, Black Cherry, Supernature and Head First are all brilliant but very different from Tales of Us. If you like electro-stomp you'll love 'em. The compilations Singles and We Are Glitter are also worth seeking out.

These seem to go for silly money on vinyl!!

I only have "Felt Mountain" and love it. Inspired now to seek out "Tales of Us" .

A few years ago when I went for my first demo of Naim, I took along my own cds, one of which was F.M. This went on the system first - ****~wow~**** By the end of the day I had purchased Naim amp / pre and cd player.....

Cant stop playing TOU so looking forward to new purchases

The gig is just flipping amazing.

The first half consists of Tales Of Us in monochromatic Glory, and the second half is simply the best of Golfraps back catalogue.

Beautifully lit, rehearsed to perfection (ok - one gremlin last night) and just so well done.

Need to see this again.

Totally agree Steve. Me and my good wife went last night and were blown away. I knew she was good but she and the band were great! First thing I did after leaving the gig was check for tickets!

Her ladyship and I have just got back from the gig at The Lowry.... I'm not sure I have the words in my vocabulary to adequately describe proceedings so I'll just say it was .megafanfookintastic. In fact,so good I'll have to say it twice..megafanfookintastic.

Sod Kate Bush @ £1200 + sitting next to the chump who just nicked your hard earned.

So I'm off to experience Alison all over again.

Last time I did this was November 1994, and that turned into one hell of a gig..

All for £28.00

Saw them at the Brighton Dome last night - my 21st 'Frapp gig (22nd if you count the recent livecast from Air Studios). Excellent as ever.

Same setlist and presentation as at the Hammersmith Apollo last November but if something's that good it's worth repeating.

Bring on August and the Greenwich Music Time festival.

Saw the Portsmouth show last night,  just one word fantastic.

That's an expression you don't hear very often these days. Oh, sorry. I thought I was in the Football thread!

Last night's show in Bristol was - in a word - puredeadbrilliant.

The light show on its own was worth the ticket price alone. The ban, stage, sound and lighting guys all deserve huge compliments for a fantastic audio and visual experience.

Thank you for the recommendations.

They are great!

Played them quite a bit already and ST is on now.

Well I had a lovely time at the Goldfrapp show in Birmingham with Steve2701. Tremendous.

Can I ask a question of you hardened Goldfrapp fans (this was my first outing)?

Does Will Gregory ever play live shows? He wasn't at Birmingham. I believe he is from a classical tradition, and it may the live thing isn't his 'bag'. What's the story from you guys who know about that sort of thing?

Hi Mr Click,
If it's still on Radio six music iPlayer there is an interesting interview with him earlier this week.

I still wonder if he ever actually plays live with Alison (don't somehow think so) but he was in audience at Bristol.

He is a complete Moog fanatic - especially the earlier fully analogue variety that need constant tuning.

He is currently touring a very different show!

How classical music sounds or would have been played on a Moog - amazing.

Also a project on a single serve of Andy Murray in super slow motion lasting 12 minutes.

Guess where I'm off to tomorrow

Followed by a show that is  just a little different by Riverside the following night.

Nice one Steve - you are a top geezer on every level. I must come along to one of those local gigs. Have a top time tomorrow.

Hi guys

Alison is indeed awesome live [and in my dreams ]; Will AFAIK does not "DO" live..., shame.

Julian, he used to appear on stage with the band, playing keyboards. However since the Black Cherry days he spends his time behind the mixing desk, which may account for the excellent sound one always hears at a Frapp concert.

Interestingly, during a BBC TV broadcast in front of a small audience last year, he did join the band to lay keyboards on a couple of numbers.
