Posted by: Zeplin000 on 13 June 2013

Hi All,

I have a new UnitiServe and need some help please! Ripping CD's is no problem, but I cant seem to access any downloaded Music in the Downloads folder on the US. I've copied over a selection of FLac file and MP3s (both in folders and into the root directory).

I've waited for the US to rescan, but the dont appear as tracks on either the Desktop client or via the ipod app. Im pretty sure im doing something fundaentally worng, but couldnt find anyhting to help on the forum.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hmmm I don't know where to start.  As for putting music into the Downloads folder, that's what I do -- I just move an entire folder that contains the music files and the album cover art as a folder.jpg file.

The only thing that has ever prevented folders from being scanned is the inclusion of prohibited characters in the name of the folder -- make sure that there are no hidden characters in the name of each folder you move over.

And in the DTC, does the Downloads folder show up as a Share that is "Online?"  If it shows up as "Offline," highlight it and click the Activate button.

I am sorry but that is all I can think of.

Yes see if the downloads folder is available in the list of shares. Or even better  contact support at Naim and let them look at the problem by logging into your server: Phil  can fix most problems!

I had the same problem with my new UnityServe. It seem to be a kind of a bug; if you switch off (power down) and restart again all your downloads are visible. Switch off by pressing the led-logo for a few seconds, the logo starts to blink and turns off after 30 seconds. Switch on by flipping the power switch at the back off and on. This should work, Hans

All, Thanks for the response. I've tried your suggestions, but no luck Im afraid. In fact, the downloads folder doesnt even show up as a network share or store. I'll get in touch with Naim about this. Thanks

Zeplin, do you own the 2tb hard drive version of the UnitiServe?

Hi Bart, Yes it's the 2TB version. I don think this is a hardware fault at all as everyhting else is working fine. I just can't seem to put the downloads folder to use!

Thanks

All, If anyone was interested in the cause of this I now know. Phil from Naim was able to log into my PC and see that the Downloads network share had been inadvertently deleted by the previous owner of my Unitiserve. Phil fixed the problem (in about 30 seconds!) by adding the share back in using its IP address.

Downloads are now working as expected. Given that Im not the original owner of the serve this is great service from Naim, and goes to show that buying a Naim product (even second hand) has benefits other than sound quality. I doubt my NAS drive supplier would have been so helpful. Thanks to the forum members for their suggestions.

Please stop rubbing in the fact that you bought one on you-know-where and I've got over five weeks to wait! as least you'll be able help when mine arrives and I get confused.

It feels strange at least not logic, that with the files on the local hard disk you still treat the share as a network share, but that is the way the servers work.
