Router/switch Question

Posted by: thebigfredc on 16 June 2013

Hi

I shall be shortly moving house. My new place has the telephone connection in the hall rather than the lounge which is where I shall set up my Unitiserve/NDX based system.

I realise that ripping is not possible without the internet availability but I am wondering if playback  will work between these components if i connect them using my existing router and switch based network.

nvm - just noticed you are talking about a dedicated Unitiserve!

Easy answer is yes. The LAN will operate the same without the internet connection. Is your switch a standalone item in addition to your router? If so either site the router in the hall & run a patch cable (cat5e+) to your switch or run a telephone extension cable to the listening room & site your router & switch there...

cheers

Thank you for replying Singlespeed

Yes i have a seperate, dedicated switch for the Userve and NDX.

From what you say the network should at least be capable of streaming music which is what I was asking.
