Tagging weirdness

Posted by: Dungassin on 18 June 2013

Decided to listen to some k.d.lang this afternoon, for the first time since I've been streaming.  I had the album artist & artist both set to 'lang, k.d.' for all of the albums/tracks I have by her

Using Asset, searching under album artist or artist, lang, k.d. wasn't there!, but did appear under advanced options in folder search.   Looked using Twonky, and same result.   Hmmm...

Changed the field to be Lang, K.D. (and yes, I did make sure there was no leading space).  No change in search findings.

Forced full rescan of folders in QNAP filer and in Asset.  No change.

Changed fields to Lang, K D - problem solved!  I've no idea what has been going on here, as the presence of full stops in an ID3 tag is usually OK : e.g. Thomas, B.J. works fine.

Any ideas?

Oh .... and I cleared the upnp cache after each stage, just in case that was the problem.

No idea why, but I have had similar with issues with asset depending on format e.g. Flac wrong, AAC correct.  It is obviously some kind of defect (bug) and you may get a better response from the illustrate forum. I don't know about you but I feel like a QA tester at times with tagging...but glad you got it sorted

Which file format were you using and which ID3 tag version(s) are you attaching to your files?

Generally I avoid full stops at the end of album names, artists and album artists. The reason being that my file/folder structure follows my tagging scheme and folder names cannot end on a full stop.

FLAC compression level 5.  I use the standard tagging as applied by dBpowerarmp.  No idea which ID3 tag versions it uses.  For the folders I remove the full stops and replace with spaces.  This is the first time I have noticed this problem.  As I said, I seem to have cured it on this occasion, but don't really understand why.

Purely as an aside, I have noticed that after a few music folder additions, that with Asset the album art shown and album reported when using Album Artist as the search field, can be a little random.  The most recent example of this was an album (forget which, but the artist began with L) was incorrectly reported as being Led Zeppelin IV and showed the art for that album.   These problems are cured by clearing the upnp and image caches in nStream.  Purely nuisance value.
