Mobile phone coverage

Posted by: Julian H on 20 June 2013

Hi

My contract is up soon so may choose to switch provider.

I am currently on Orange/T.Mobile/EE and am regularly frustrated by poor/no signal, whilst those around me seem to be carrying on okay. Supposedly Orange/T.Mobile/EE are the best according to this website "ukmobilecoverage.co.uk/best"  Obviously most will only have experience of their providers coverage but do YOU get frustrated often? If so, what network are you on?

I'm not really interested in 4G yet, just want a good 3G service! I'd appreciate some feedback.

Cheers, Julian

I'd hazard a guess that socialising with our neighbours began to die long before mobiles, t'internet etc.

And I'll tell you something else. Nostalgia's not what it was. And it never was.

And yes life was bad in the 70s and 80s. Unemployment, depressions, slums, public health, gay bashing, sexism, racism,  - and worse. Rubbish consumer goods. No practically enforceable consumer law. And absolutely ridiculous fashions - the 70s in particular. Some of the music wasn't too bad though.

I don't understand why those who would askew technology think everybody else should. Do what suits you and be happy.  The rest of the world will take care of itself. Since my income mainly comes from phone calls, having one is not a lifestyle choice which I could happily forgo if only I tried harder. But I don't think everybody else should use one just because I do. And if nobody else did then I wouldn't need to.

It's like the PC/Mac situation. 100% of my clients use PC based Windows systems. So why would I want to tell them how misguided they are? Or insist on using a different propitiatory system for the sake of making a point? My phone would soon stop ringing.

Harry, you remember differently than I. Nothing wrong with that. Although I agree about racism etc. A couple of things though — unemployment rate here is at much higher level today than it was in 70's. And fashion is always ridiculous, as much today than back then (and will be also in the future)

I am fortunate that my mob is for worktime only, 9 to 5, and when out and about it is often OFF. I have little need to be contactable 24/7 but am frustrated with poor signal strength whenever I do want to make or receive a call. I have recently left Vodaphone for Orange and can see little difference so might try BT next. Interestingly I was in Norway a couple of years ago and weather I was in the deepest Fiord or on top of a mountain I ALWAYS had a signal! just about sums this country up!

Now that you bring it to my attention, I must agree.

I'm of an age now where trends cycle and I can remember the last time.

I have an aunty and uncle in Cape Town it's a beautiful part of the world. I shall be in morocco in September I've never been before and really looking forward to it. It's funny how conversions often digress on these things. good luck finding the best phone tariff for you. Mike

Wiltshireman,

Good luck, BT spun off it's mobile division some 12 years ago to O2.  Your best approach is to look at coverage maps fro the area you live in and those that you frequent most often and make a choice based on that - not that they are 100% accurate but they give you a pretty good indication.

I have an Orange phone for work and a Vodafone on personal contract. I travel a lot around the UK and have to say that in my experience Vodafone coverage is significantly better than Orange. Of course could just be a freaky coincidence that all my clients have been in Vodafone rich areas.

No-one provides reliable coverage for me at home but Vodafone have provides a femtocell, basically a mini-3G hub that routes calls in/out over the internet. Gives full 3G coverage over most of the house. Most other providers have similar hardware available.

Regards,

Willy.
