Off the top of my head. This album IMO was never bettered by Santana thereafter. A seminal album of my youth.

This was the first thought of my great second albums. I smile just like the last guy whenever I play 'Countdown'.

Oh and lyric supremo's - http://steelydan.com/lyrcountdown.html

Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure.

Their best IMO.

Could be Paranoid. Maybe a little bit over played at some point in the past but still a favourite.

And not just because it's called "Second Album"

Nigella Lawson's problems reminded me of this album.

The first side of Anthem of the Sun is really the Dead at their creative peak; played in concert (and recorded) thousands of times, but never bettered.

The great songwriting teams of Godley & Creme + Gouldman & Stewart

Not content with making the greatest debut in the history of recorded music, they then went on to make of the best second (sadly their last) albums ever:

This:

In case you don't know what it is, it's "Power, Corruption & Lies" by New Order (1983).

I'm surprised nobody has suggested this;

Certainly in my top three Bob Dylan albums of all time.

Steven Wilson & Tim Bowness got into their stride here. A great band.

Kate Bush - Lionheart  (1978)

Perhaps it's wasn't possible to better the classic debut album 'The Kick Inside'.

But Lionheart is a fabulous 2nd album
