Maybe we need to be LESS fixated on picture resolution and more on frame rate.

High frame rate is fine for doumentaries, but to me it looks terrible on fiction. It is somehow too "real", so the actors on the set just look like actors on a set. But I do get the issue with LFR footage needing corresponding low shutter speeds to get some motion blur to reduce strobing on scenes with panning or a lot of movement. If done poorly, it can be very distracting, especially on the big screen. High frame rates deal with that issue very well.

Hi W,

 

I found the article interesting, esp in the context of the 48fps version of The Hobbit, and different peoples reaction to the format.

 

It IS easy to just accept the standards we have as the product of some logical and scientific exercise, rather than something more accidental.

 

The proof of the pudding is always in the eating, but I did like the thought that you could remain at current data throughput, simply change the delivery AND increase the perceived quality.
