N serve update

Posted by: Cbr600 on 09 July 2013

Just downloaded a new app update for n serve, now showing version 2.6 with added support for 1.7a software

Same here, but I've not seen any differences...

The key thing is, 1.7a is not available yet for download.

Could you do that direct from a Mac computer or do you have to use memory sticks etc?

I downloaded the update and it removed my favorite feature of the nServe application; that it didn't power off after inactivity!

I LOVED the fact that the app kept my iPad on as long as it was onscreen, this way I had instant control over my music. Now that the app powers off just like the stupid Apple Remote app does, it has the same problems. Basically when I want to control my stereo I have to turn on my iPad and wait for the app to handshake with the server, then wait for it to update the system status. This is a HUGE step backwards without any improvement in the standard nServe interface.

Hi Naijeru,

Settings > Stay connected

switch this on and it should work to your liking

This version have solved a strange problem with n-serve not being able to discover my ns01 with autodetect, a problem I do not know when started, good work!

As TJ says, but remember it generally reduces the battery on your IPad quicker than not staying connected.

I tend to reconnect every time.

thanks for the update Claus,

There was a problem that some routers were blocking the UPnP discovery packets, notably the Virgin superhub here in the UK. I think our workaround is pretty robust for that particular router. What model do you have out of interest? Has anybody else had discovery issues fixed by the last update? If so which router are you using? Would be handy to know for our records

Cheers

Tom

THANK YOU! This is a godsend. I didn't even know there was a settings feature in that list. There are 12 items there but I only see "Albums, Artists, Genres ... Track Search." Is it possible to place settings for the app in the general Settings menu for the device? That's where I was looking for this feature.

I don't mind that it uses the battery, my iPad is actually pretty miserly and even if it gets low it's not far from power. I appreciate having the choice to decide how I want to use the power on my device rather than have it dictated by a manufacturer.

Hi Jonas, if you are refering to the download, then the n-Serve app should tell you that it needs updating on whatever device it is on, which includes the Mac, but I guess you know this? So have I misunderstood your question?

A Zyxel P-2601HN-F1 ::.

It did work before, that is I am not really sure when before was, but my ISP has there own firmware for the router and they update it without warning.

I have just been fortunate enough to get an upgrade from Virgin UK and as part of the solution they have replaced the unreliable Superhub with their new Superhub2 which is a Netgear product. All networking issues previously encountered with the 2 year old Superhub have now been totally eradicated. Internet Radio with no buffering problems and even better nStream 3.2 working perfectly with my SU & NAS (Synology 213+) on iPhone 5 and iPad due to full uPnP support on the Superhub2. You may have to pay for it unless you get their UK VIP package but with 120Mbps download and 10Mbps upload it was a no brainer for me.
