1.7 Update - Flac Rips
Posted by: Robko on 13 July 2013
Hi All,
I was wondering if the new Flac rips using 1.7 update contain standard metadata. For example if I copy my naim Flac rips to another device, will the metadata be read? I know that WAV rips did not contain embedded metadata.

Cant see whay not. The problem with wav is that they cannot easily contain metadata, it was not really naims doing. Apples wav rips cannot be used on other devices either.

If you edit meta data you still get the useredit.xml files, but I have not copied a file and looked at it in a meta data editor.
Wich I just didd and the meta data that is showed in dtc or n-serve is in the file.
The other thing I have not done is to compare the sound quality, of a wav rip and a flac rip.

If all tagging info is contained in an XML file them no metadata is embedded in the actual file? Am I correct?

No it is strange because the standard meta data is in the file, if you view it in an mp3 editor, so the other file may be there to be compatible with the wav way of doing things?

Thanks Claus... So of the tags exists I can also use them with my sonos! This is great news.

I just found out you can both go from wav to flac and from flac to wav, so this is the explanation for the extra xml file.

That's even better! Thanks for the additional info. Just waiting for my unitiserve to arrive so I can start ripping my collection!
