qute to supernait

Am I correct in thinking that to use a qute as a streamer into a supernait, you connect from the pre out on the qute to the tape in on the supernait?

If it's the existing, soon to be replaced SuperNait, then probably best is to take the digital out from the Qute into one of the digital ins of the SuperNait. Disable speaker output on the Qute which I think shuts down at least the power amp stage for best performance.

If you're referring to SuperNait 2 then yes, it sounds like you would take the pre-out to the SN2, using it as power amp only.

I'm not entirely sure if the UQ can be used as a straight source into an integrated like the SN2, but I'd be interested to know the answer as well on that, since surely the SN2 pre has to be a higher performer than that in the UQ, and of course it would be upgradable with Hi-Cap DR for further performance. Hopefully others will be along soon to add further info.

Pre-amp out into any of the SN's inputs.  Set the Qute's Speakers setting to none.

There is a digital output is you want to use the SN's DAC.

If you have the cables, try both to see which you prefer - I have no idea which is supposed to be better.

Yes supernait 1, thanks both.

I would consider using the input socket direct to the SN power amp (behind the link plug). That way you by-pass the SN preamp. The UQ preamp out already has volume and balance applied in the UQ. Of course, this means you can't use any other SN inputs at all!

Better still could be Pre-out from the Qute into AV Unity Gain, bypassing the SN pre while not losing other sources.

It is important to understand the difference between Pre-out (variable level) and Line-out (fixed level) on the Qute, and to be sure to use the former with either winky's or my suggestion.

I am with Gavin; I have no idea which sounds better, and would be interested in a report back from maze as to how each option rates.

Enjoy!

Nick - there is no fixed level (analogue) line-out for the Qute

Hi, Gavin.  I see you are correct.  Only the Uniti and Uniti2 give you the choice.  Interesting omission on the SU, I think.

So, for analog, I would use Unity Gain, to keep the number of preamps in the chain lower.  But, I bet connecting digitally would be better.  Just guessing . . .
