n-stream volume control NAC202 - ND5XS

Posted by: andelun on 18 July 2013

I couldn't get the volume control buttons on n-stream get to work. Thanks to help from Steven Hopkins (NAIM support) I managed. As there was no information on the Forum about how to do it I'll post the solution.

On the back of your NAC202 is an RCA socket labelled RC5 in. On the back of your ND5XS is a 3.5 jack socket labelled Remote in. Y

ou need a mono 3.5 jack to single RCA phono lead to go from the RCA socket to Remote in on the ND5XS. If you have a stereo 3.5 jack then use the red RCA plug.

Then follow instructions in the ND5XS manual page 15.
 - The System Automation setup menu comprises five items.
 - Select Preamp and chose Enabled.
 - Select Streamer Audio and chose Input Used - Pre AV.

Andelun, thanks for pointing this out for those who don't know, your dealer should be able to give you this info as well, as well as set it for you. Those dealer margins are there for a reason and is the advantage of dealer purchases.

BTW, have you worked out how to control your NAC202 input selector with the chosen input displaying up on the ND5XS display... I think that is really neat. There is quite a lot you can do with Automation.

Simon, thanks for your reply. Surely the dealer should have known, but I'm very glad NAIM just doesn't deliver quality HiFi equipment but also is very strong in customer service.

Now I have configered Automation basically I'll try to configere the remote input selection. First I need to find out which UPnP server for OSX will show album art. I added cover art in iTunes and added a folder.jpg in each album.I used Majestic Media Server and Playback, but don't see any cover art. Althought: sometimes it does but mostly not.

Hi, sorry cant help here, I use Linux and MS for my upnp servers. Although I understand there is a beta version of Asset that runs under OSX which might be worth looking at.

I had a similar problem with my ND5 XS to NaitXS & thanks to my dealer (& Naim) it turned out to be the 3.5mm-3.5mm lead. once I'd replaced that, it worked a charm.

I can confirm that £land sell a 2mtr lead that works fine! (hey - it's only comms!)

Singlespeed, I'm curious, what was the difference between your previous lead and this new one? I now use a stereo lead, maybe the mono lead gives the difference (although that would be like magic - isn't human made software always like that?)

Hi andelun

The original lead was a similar stereo lead but had 3 bands across the connectors as opposed to the normal 2...? My dealer spotted it & lent me an audiophile one to test & it worked straight away.
