Advice for a digital coaxial cable.

Posted by: Wotan on 20 January 2011

Currently, muy digital system: Naim DAC/hiface EVO/TeraDak power supply/Mac mini 2010/Chord Optichord optical cable.

I'm thinking of upgrading the digital cable. Maybe BNC-BNC. I wonder what is your opinion. Is it worth it compared to optical cable? What cable do you recommend me? Thanks.

Hi

I use Mark Grant G1000HD coax BNC-BNC cables between my CDX2 digi-out to NDac, and Qute to NDac, great value for money and IMHO a great sound...

Never saw those Mark Grant cables. Looking good and promising comments here. And a price which make it worth testing it without breaking the bank. RCA - BNC will do it for me between the SB touch and the Naim dac. Still using a budget digital cable from a discount store. Curious whether a MG cable will sound different.

Mark offers a money back guarantee so nothing to lose by giving one a try....

I have a spare MG RCA/BNC you can try if you like....

Hi, as has been said, the important factor is the characteristic impedance of the cable and it's connectors, and should be 75 ohms. You don't need fancy cables for a short run. Although there are 75 ohm RCA terminators, the usual standard is BNC. Either should work well given the correct impedance matching.

If the characteristic impedance is wrong, standing waves are produced in the cable as well as losses. It's the standing waves than can produce non lineararities  and issues in the digital line out amplifier stages and make cables 'sound' different.

Just wondered if anyone here has tried these digital cables from Flashback sales?  Very good prices and heard previously good results with their other stuff.
