Resident Evil Zero ?Bug

I'm sure there must be some gamers here ...  I would have searched the forums, but the update has buggered up the search function (don't start me off about how BAD the updates are)
One of my sons-in-law decided to return some of my console games, and among them was Resident Evil Zero (Gamecube).
I've played this before, but thought I'd have another go.  I'm playing it on a wii using a GC controller.  All went well until just after the midgame disc change.  I've got the "safe" type dial for the door, know I've got to enter 4863, but I'm b****red if I can make the dial turn.  The on-screen instructions says L/R:Rotate, then press A, but nothing happens - the dial doesn't move.  I've tried holding down the L and/or R trigger, and "rotating" the left joystick clockwise and anticlockwise, just pressing L and/or R then rotating the left joystick, the same manouevres using the Right joystick.  Sod all happens.

So ... have I found a new bug, or am I just doing it wrong.  I've posted this query on gamefaqs.com and searched every downloadable walkthru I can find for the game all to no avail.   HELP!!!

Solved it.  IIRC it took me a few tries before I found out the method last time!

Press and hold L or R trigger key.  Press and release A.  Rotate to correct number. Release L/R. Press A.  etc etc.   Hardly intuitive.
