The Cricket World Cup 2011

Thought I would start a thread as the teams are starting to be announced.

One thing I can be sure of is that it will be far better than the appalling FIFA event of last year which seemed to consist of a bunch of over paid chavs pouting for four weeks, then refusing to bother playing a game to decide the whole thing.

For England I really can't see the point of including Treadwell and dropping Tremlett. Should be strong contenders though. I expect out top three bowlers will be fit by then, Swann will be good to see in action on those wickets.

Could be quite open all in all, but I think the sub continent teams will be hot on their home turf.

I'm struggling to get really enthused. Test matches really float my boat, much as I prefer the 50 over format to the crash bang wallop of 20/20 I still cannot quite get excited about the World Cup.

The key for England may be adapting to the slower wickets. I'd pick Strauss/Pietersen/Morgan as key men who need to find one-day form. I'm unconvinced by Treadwell but the returning Broad might be good news, he at least will be hungry after missing out on Ashes glory. He might jut biff a few runs too.

S Africa vs India to win it though.

I might have to reconsider, just to let the English batsmen know, that piece of wood you hold in your hand is to hit the ball with, preferably not straight to an Aussy. I think they might have forgotten.

Whooo   howzat

England snatched victory from the jaws of certain defeat from South Africa in Chennai.
They were bowled out for just 171 & with South Africa on 124-3 another defeat looked almost certain.
Then the South Africans collapsed to 127-7, loosing 4 wickets for 3 runs in 5 overs
Stuart Broad (4-15) polished off the tail for victory by 6 runs with 14 balls remaining

Must send heart felt condolences to by buddies in SA,  those okes will be drowning sorrows in their Castle's diluted with floods of tears.  -  jammer okes, net die Ozzes te klop

Crikey! I gave up on that game! Another amazing result for England, along with the India draw and the Irish defeat for different reasons.

Hah, someone's mentioned the Ireland match! I was too polite to bring it up Mark

Reminds me of the time England were beaten by the Netherlands in a one-dayer. (OK, a while ago, but still fresh in the memory)

The England skipper on that occasion must have been deported, he's been here ever since, spouting endless gibbering nonsense on radio and in print.

- No sweeping it under the carpet here Bazz! It was a magnificent performance by Ireland and Kevin O Brien in particular, and rightly celebrated by the Irish.

Very much like the Dutch game.

On the subject of gibbering nonsense, please note I have ditched that silly yo-yo name for another silly one.

Sorry to go off topic.

Have to say in the wake of the India\Australia and SA\NZ games that I'm really enjoying this World Cup. Will England make the semi's and who's going to win?

It looks like its all over for england

Eng 229-6

SL  120-0 @ 22 overs

Sri Lanka are winning with embarrassing ease and England look like they know it

The time away is now showing & the spectre of defeat is weighing heavy on the round shoulders

But to be fair they have been on the road with very little rest time and they have had more injuries & replacements than is good for any team

But they beat the Aussies & come home with the Ashes & are T20 champs

But its home time now by the look of it
