Uniti upgrade

Posted by: mudwolf on 24 January 2011

I saw there is new software for the Uniti, a friend has one and doesn't know how to upgrade.  I told him to get the serial # and call the dealer I took him to.  Does it come in a CD?  He asks me technical questions and yet won't get on the forum for fear of looking stupid. I told him THAT was stupid!  He also won't call a friend who has done IT between PC and Mac, wifi and what not. He has all the technical printouts I could find and the booklet.  I'm loosing my patience.

There are a couple of software upgrades but they are both dealer fit and one requires the uniti to go back to naim and costs c£225 The recommendation here would be go and see your dealer. I don't believe there is any software out there that enables you to DIY.......

BTW your friend isn't you is it

I have also tried to find a way to upgrade myself and got as far as finding the detailed instructions from Naim on how to do it :

http://www.naimusa.com/support...ate_v3-2_WEurope.pdf

However, you need a username and password to download the firmware from Naim and I assume this is only available to dealers since I was denied access ! Pity - taking it to a dealer is a pain in the arse and shouldn't really be necessary.

Have you tried to "ask" google for the zip (NaimUniti_v3.0_WEurope.zip) file?

Many thanks Stephan. My previous "google" simply directed me back to the pdf instruction file so I didn't try again. However, after your comments I searched again and I now have the appropriate zip file to get me started on the upgrade.

Point your friend to the "sticky" at the top of the page

It all depends on the version of software on his Uniti. Mine went back to the factory and was upgraded completely free of charge (no £225 cost) because it was a 10198.

I'm a little suprised that this thread is still around.
It would appear to contain (if you follow the Google suggestion) everything required for a user to update their own Uniti without visiting a dealer.
Is this now acceptable to Naim or has the post just not been moderated?

You can't put the genie back in the bottle!

I have many devices at home where I have had to apply firmware updates. In two cases, my Freeview and Freesat PVRs I am now using firmware that has been improved by 3rd parties.

I do know that my dealer had quite a bit of difficulty updating their own Uniti and therefore were understandably reluctant to start on mine.

As per the previous post, if you have a Uniti with 10198 version software, send it back to the factory (via your dealer) for the free of charge upgrade. But its not just a software update - there is also a hardware update to enable iPod plug in via front USB (bypassing the iPod DAC), etc, etc. See 'sticky' for full details. I am in UK, but my Uniti was away for only just over 10 working days - great service and turnaround.
