Another beautiful album with Chic Corea is Pete La Rocca's "Turkish Women At The Baths", notable not only for Corea's and drummer La Rocca's contributions, but especially for John Gilmore's tenor sax. Great tunes and imaginative, modal arrangements. Nice to hear Gilmore stretch out in a different context to the mighty Sun Ra (isn't anyone going to recommend Sun Ra as a jazz pianist to get to grips with?).
Another Blue Note pianist often forgotten about is Andrew Hill. He was to early Blue Note what I guess Jan Garbarek is to ECM; in other words Hill was encouraged from the label's inception to record every project he could imagine with a mouth watering array of the very best musicians in the states at that time. Consequently his Blue Note catalogue is almost without peer.
