Mornington Crescent - 2011 New Forum Version

Well there has been a lot of talk about if the new look forum works. Well what better way to test it properly than with a good, or possibly mediocre, but hopefully not bad, game of 'Mornington Crescent'?

In the spirit of newness, new, rebuilt, or revamped stations score double, reversing is not allowed, and new lines (post 1980) can only be followed by a diagonal.

Other than that I would suggest playing Brunell's Great Western variant. Tunnelling is only allowed to the West, crossing water must be done only on double lines, any 'green' stations cause the following player to skip a go. Suburban routes are to be played below the line.

Obviously the Great Western variant allows to news rules to instigated by senior players as the game progresses provided there is consensus.

If all that sounds good, I will male a bold, although slightly risky start.

New Malden.

Oakwood Park is a vain attempt to close the game and create an unbalanced situation.

But since I previously announced a tunnel, I am now able to throw this gauntlet:

Shinjuku!

(Remember the famous Yamamoto/Jigoro situation? This one makes me laugh every time...)

But not with a left whistle.  A left whistle counters Shinjuku (remember?).

Embankment.

What can I say? As soon as I saw M. Meredith's attempted prompt (Haussmann Saint-Lazare, in Great Western?) I was reminded of the time I was staying at the Belgian Embassy in Paris...

After the ambassador had been in Nid for six successive rounds, he was forced to admit he'd never even heard of the Docklands Light Railway, allowing a win for me two moves later. At the time, I was almost tempted to declare Mornington Croissant, but thought better of it.

Is Samantha keeping scores?
