New Naim forum

A Message to Naim:

Well, guys, this "new" forum has only been online for a couple of weeks but I'm getting really tired of the Draconian moderation and the inflexible format.  I've been a member for several years;  I have received, and hope I have given, helpful advice.  But the deletion and locking of posts, the inability to quote text, etc, has got to the point that I'm seriously considering using only the Pink Fish and Linn fora.  While I realize you must have put a lot of effort into this new forum, it can best, and most charitably, be described as a "work in progress" at the present time and is going to require significant updating to approach the usability of the old forum.  Please don't add insult to injury by living by the letter of the law instead of the spirit of the law when moderating posts!

If the forum is to be a useful customer resource (remember, the company exists because of its customers, not the other way around!), lighten up and apply some flexibility and judgement to your moderation.  Hopefully you will have the strength of character and customer commitment not to delete this post.

Got quite excited by the possibilities of an iPhone app. Downloaded it and... too slow; text needs to be adjustable; needs to go landscape and it's generally clunky. Need to be able to edit profiles from there too, not just view. So, back to the forum on Safari on the iPhone. From a visual impairment perspective the layout is much better. However, forum links need to be presses twice to work. First press selects and second press opens the link. Rapidly losing will to live.

Would be helpful if the "Reply" box opened on the screen too rather than bottom right and mostly off screen.

Why is it that "getting it out there" is more important than getting the basics right?

Hi
I have been away-, Richard closed the forum down as soon as he became aware, we have been assured by HOOPLA that the bug has been fixed, they apologised for this error and acted straight away to correct the issue.

I am sure Naim will NOT be apologising for this cock-up on a public forum. Paul's carefully worded statement above is the closest you will get.

It's a typically mealy-mouthed response IMO, but I suppose it will have to do.

I take garyi's point though. Not sure looking back why I put my details on there in the first place, to be honest.

It's sad to see so many old friends leave the forum. I hope one day this may be fully sorted and perhaps we can get back to something like those good old days. This is via the iPhone app and l quite like it although not yet as good as tapatalk. Mind you it's hard to imagine if you tried to piss off forum members that a more successful strategy could have been devised.

John, I'm afraid that, having given it a month and allowed for teething troubles, I'm finding myself with a rapidly decreasing desire to visit this forum, which I find unattractive, clumsy and dull.  To have been beefed up a bit, all the old Forum perhaps needed was a few added features like, say, the Leicester Tigers' Forum (I was going to say Linn Forum, but thought that might not be acceptable with the management).  IMO the rehashed Naim Forum is an overambitious experiment that hasn't come off.  And, like too many Naim products of late, was released before it was ready.

I dunno, bunch of wimps! :-)

This is nothing compared to the cull that followed The Great Moderation putsch of '06, when not only a number of excellent contributors legged it (making it a much more one-eyed forum) but it also saw the loss of PMs and the premature closure of threads (particularly in The Music Room).

Oh, and you can't include George leaving at least three times since the new software was introduced. :-)

Yes the Implemantation and presentation are woeful but you can still post! And even read (if you squint).

Because some consider platforms to be more important than content.

Also to do with resistance to change. To be sure, the impementation of the new forum is flawed, but I have no doubt that the issues will be solved and  I cannot understand the attitude of some members. Many posters here seem to object to making some simple change e.g. "why should I have to adjust settings to avoid unwanted emails" being the most ridiculous.

It's a similar story with regard to my football team "The Hammers" the announcement today regarding the proposed move to the Olympic Stadium is really good news for my club. I was on West Ham's books in my teens, and am nostalgic of my times at Upton  Park as anyone.

The Key West Ham forum is full of rants from many "supporters" resisting the change, with many stating that they will never attend a match at the new stadium.

Well, I for one prefer to "opt-in" rather than to have to "opt-out", its only polite !

Cheers

Don

PS. looks like I still need to learn how to use the "quote" function !!

Apologies Don, did not mean to be personal, more upset about the reaction on KUMB (Knees up Mother Brown) Forum.

The quote function is quite easy to find, now I look. Its on the bottom right of the post.

In fact if the email send was not "opt-in" I would probably not have been aware of its functionality , which as an infrequent poster I find most useful. I think there are many more worse examples of inclusion on the web, I am forever removing toolbars I never agreed to.
