MusicLover, I am waiting since jan 10th for an upgrade on the dac to be able to read flac files by the usb port.
It was supposed to be available at the end of january and free of charge but until now... no news
We have to wait a little more.

Hi All,
I can confirm that the Naim DAC FLAC release is in the final stages of testing and will be released soon. It will be a free of charge upgrade and will enable playback of FLAC files from USB sticks.
We will be be showing it at Bristol at the end of this month and will be announcing the release date then.
Regards
Tom

@Tom
Good to hear we are nearly there.
Are there any other changes/fixes implemented in this new firmware or just the flac replay?

aleg,
FLAC is the main new feature, in addition there are a few tweaks to make the DAC work with the NDX system automation feature. This feature allows the NDX to automatically select DAC inputs via an RC5 cable connection.

Will FLAC sound worse, better or the same as WAV?

Is there something that I do wrong if I can't get alac working from usb-stick? I put the stick on the front usb socket but the is absolute silence. I tried to hit play but nothing comes out of the speakers. Any suggestions?

What you're doing wrong is that you are using ALAC .
nDAC can only play WAV-files from the USB stick and will be able to do FLAC with the upcoming firmware upgrade. So no other formats.
You could just convert it to WAV though. E.g. use dBPoweramp converter for easy conversion.

Hi Olli,
The DAC currently only supports WAV files from USB. The FLAC release discussed above will add FLAC support. ALAC is currently not supported.

Ok....I hope that there would be support also for alac in near future. Does usb hardrives work with ndac? It would be nice to rip for example all Mozarts cds to one hardrive and stick it in. It would be 170 cds though...Is it only tracks that you can skip one by one or album to album or how does it work?

Navigation is just previous and next track.
The USB port on the nDAC isn't realy for hard disk usage. It can be used if they are self powered and don't rely on the USB power from the nDAC. But navigational control isn't build for that.
The main interfaces on the nDAC are its SPDIF (coax or optical).
The USB port on the nDAC is meant to be used with USBsticks and iPods really.

USB jump drives in the nDAC work just like CDs. Previous, Next, RWD, FF, Stop and Play/Pause are the only navigation features available. It doesn't allow for skipping albums or traversing folders.
