NAP90 for rear surrounds... non Naim cable.
Posted by: Chris Bell on 05 February 2011
I have acquired an old NAP90 (half case model) to power my rear surrounds. I am using a long run of lamp cord wire to the speakers on the rear wall. While I ran NACA5 in the walls to the front/center speakers, I did not want to spend money to run naim cable to the rears.
Question: is there any chance I am damaging the amp or is the long run sufficient to provide the necessary inductance? So far, it sounds fine. System is AV2/175V/NAP90/Intro2/Rega Center/no name in-wall surrounds.

Chris - that'll work fine.

Chris,
as James says, it'll work well. Anyway, when I had surround - a Nap175 with n-Sats, that soon came to the front - I asked the forum and Adam Meredith suggested Chord Campana wire for long runs. It is tiny, cheap and works very well, in fact I kept it and am now using it for the stereo setup, between Nait5 and n-Sats.

I normally recommend Chord 'Leyline'.
I use this for my own surround speakers (and centre for now). It seems fine and much easier to accommodate than NACA5.
'Campana' may be much the same or an alternative name for Leyline.

Yes, you're right - sorry for the misquote. You suggested a cable that was not available anymore and I found the Campana in its place. I was very satisfied with it, anyway - I still use it.
