New electricity meter - anything I should know?

Posted by: gav111n on 04 August 2013

My electricity supplier has contacted me to arrange for a new meter to be installed. No further information given. The existing meter is mechanical, spinny-wheel type, put in when the house was built about 25 years ago. Is there anything to worry about regarding potential impact on sound quality with a 'modern' meter?

I've stuck a notice in my meter-box telling E.ON not to install a 'Smart Meter' without consultation. They come complete with propaganda bollocks and do NOTHING for you.

They've been conceived to send out meter readings wirelessly to prevent meter readers having to physically read the meter. What you do get is some more potential RFI floating around from their 'transmissions'.

Some pertinent links.

How long before EU Regulations force inactive domestic electronic devices to go into a very low power consumption 'standby' mode?
