Do any of you keep unusual pets ?

Walking home thru the Church grounds yesterday i stopped to have a chat with a guy that had with him on leads....2 GOATS.

Told me he was not into Dogs and wanted something different. Both were busy chomping away (with the vicars OK)at the bushes. Told me they live appx 10 years.live in his large garden, dont know their names or respond to commands like SIT.

As i left him i was wondering, does he put them in DOG kennels when he goes on holiday. How does he transport them, does he just stuff them in the back of his car and let thew chew the upholstery, and lastly if they get ill will the local vet sort things out? I can just imagine taking 2 Goats into our local vets....all hell would break out.

PS....Daffy Duck got any goat pictures?

There's a Lady who is often sighted in the local town (Cranbrook) out walking her two Ferrets on leads.  That's about as unusual as it gets in these parts - that I know about.

A friend of mine used to have a pair of pygmy goats called Buttons & Bows. I think they were Nigerian. Great creatures, and they certainly attracted a lot of attention when we took them out on their leads. They were very tame & you could let them off in the woods; they'd follow along quite happily. Certainly novelty value but they didn't have much character TBH.

I used to have a tarantula called Rose (she was a Chilean Rose). A very interesting creature but a bit static. Until you popped a live cricket (her staple food) into the tank. Quite harmless of course & you could handle her but she was quite fragile. I kept her for a while in my office and she certainly helped my secretary overcome her fear of spiders. I eventually gave her away to a friend's young son who's still got her so she must be well over twenty years old by now.

Nothing at present but through the years I have had various herptiles, covering every order save the crocodilians.

As a young teen I once had a small bullfrog I had caught with 5 legs (3 in front.)  I took it to the Staten Island zoo to donate, which they took it, and put it in a display with a 5-legged bullfrog that they already had!

This summer I have a lot of mosquitoes and a very successful wasp-breeding programme it seems.

All free to a good home. Buyer collects.

About thirty years ago, we had silkworms for a season...just for fun.

When she was working at the school, Sally (Mrs) would bring stick insects home for the holidays, very uninteresting.

When my wife was still at school she kept Xenopus toads and stick insects. Thankfully her mother forced her to get rid of them.

I have 2 Australian bearded dragons. 2ft in length from head to tail. I also keep various insects to feed them with. Worms, crickets, locusts etc.

Not especially unusual and perhaps not pets ... but I've got 8 chickens in the garden!

SWMBO sometimes calls me her pet.  Does that mean I qualify?

I used to keep snakes, I had 3 at one point, but nothing now.
A friend of mine used to have all sorts, snakes, lizards, tarantulas, scorpions, even a horned toad that used to eat mice whole on one go!
I think she went on to work in a reptile house...
