From NDX/XPS-DR to NDS/XPS-DR. An upgrade?

Posted by: MangoMonkey on 05 August 2013

Just wondering whether anyone is running the NDS with a XPS-DR - and whether it will be an upgrade moving from the NDX to NDS while still using the XPS-DR. Maybe the XPS-DR will be a let down?

Having said that, while it is an interesting proposition, that $$ can buy you a tons of records - I wonder if the money is better spent on Vinyl...

Mango - I made this transition (albeit with TXPS) and am very happy with the upgrade - though I never tried an external DAC because I wanted to limit the box count

Mango, yes it will be a technical upgrade. The NDS / XPS will sound different to the NDX / XPS. You will find the former provides more detail, clarity, air and dynamics. The XPS just ultimately holds back the true potential compared to the 555PS on the NDS . The PSU is only part of the equation.

However, audition carefully to see if you prefer it, or it's worth the difference with the rest of your system with the XPS.

Thanks, Simon. I've heard the NDS at the end of a 500 series system - and wasn't super impressed - atleast not enough to drop $20K on it. However, my host also played a LP12 and that was something else altogether. It probably makes more sense for me to spend some more on collecting Vinyl - and my RP8 hasn't been used in a while...
