3.21 Gapless playback issues with Asset

Posted by: Simon-in-Suffolk on 16 August 2013

Hi, has anyone else noticed that gapless playback is not completely 'gapless' since upgrading to the new firmware?

I am using Asset as the upnp server. I mostly had no noticeable gaps with the previous firmware.

Unfortunately I did not play anything gapless last night when I was evaluating the new firmware/nStream. Is is a big gap, or just an audible glitch?

Just updated my 172 with 3.21 and iPad with 3.3.

No problems with gapless after that, works pretty well as before updating.

I listened to some Pink Floyd last night that seemed pretty gapless. In fact I was worried about the exact same thing which is why I chose an album that I knew was gapless to try out the new software. I'm using twonky on a readynas.

Hy Steven,

actual listen to "The Wall" from Pink Floyd and no problems with gapless.

Use Twonky on a Mybooklive and ethernet.

Since updating to 3.21, I've also noticed that playback is not completely 'gapless'. There is a slight, but noticeable audio 'glitch' between tracks. I'm using asset, transcoding FLAC to WAV. Playback was completely gapless with the previous firmware, so hopefully Naim can and will fix this.

Incidentally, and I don't think I'm imagining this, the update has improved the sound quality of my NDS - it's sounding more musical than ever!?

Dave, it is moe a glitch, less than half a second, but quite noticeable unfortunately.

Hi,
Sorry for the possible dumb question.why would you want to play music gapless?.i tried this when I first got my touch, hated it.tracks were designed to have gaps.every album i have ripped has natural gaps between tracks.i suppose each to their own, just curios.

Scott, depends on the album, but some classical and quite a few rock and club music tracks are designed to flow one into another as a mix with no gap at all. When the gap is there it can become really intrusive as a glitch in the music.
